Star point in three phase motor

Hi gang, I was wondering if anyone here as any pointers on finding the internal star point on a three phase motor? I’ve opened up one that came with something I bought ages ago, hoping I could wire it delta but there is no obvious internal point where the windings come together. Is there a...

How many of you own surface planers?

I don’t have that particular one but if you do a search on here you’ll find a number of threads complaining that the tables are often out of true and there being no way to adjust them back into square. Some others have also complained about the noise as being particularly high. You might pick...

How many of you own surface planers?

The first link in your post above is to a planer thicknesser, although not a particularly good one. The second link in your post above is to a thicknesser. I would say the description of that listing (the second one) is misleading. I think at least some of the confusion arises as a result of...

Slight attack of pedantry oncoming but aren’t they either digital callipers or vernier callipers? :D

That is one impressive hunk of iron Mark. Did the rest of the chain sharpening gubbins come with it?

Does anyone know if these would work on mild steel or are they only really for leather?

How parallel are the parallel clamps

The bessey parallel cramps are very good and the jaws do, more or less, stay parallel during glue up. I still tend to use bearers and cauls to get a truly flat surface though and imagine you could do the same with your own cramps:

Boot sale find: sorby beechwood plane

Custard and I were both asking for pics illustrating the last few you had fixed like this. I’d be interested in seeing how a crack in a woodie, fixed with glue, would hold up against the pressure exerted by the wedge and I think Custard was interested in the same. I assume you can read my posts?

Boot sale find: sorby beechwood plane

Fair enough although that fix sounds like it’s in a different part of the plane faced with different challenges i.e. not so troubled by the action of the wedge. I’m still keen to see ED’s efforts at similar fixes. I’m not sure how you could cross strap such a crack without interfering with the...

Yes I’d also like to see some pics of the last few you’ve fixed like this ED. Seems more trouble than it’s worth to me.

Great stuff everyone thanks. If that’s a tank cutter is this for cutting washers then? These oddities keep following me home...

    Random Orbit Sander

I’ve got the Mak BO6030. Its a great bit of kit but as with most sanders it’s performance is greatly improved with better abrasives. I’ve been using abranet recently which is probably the best I’ve tried so far.

I love rippled sycamore or maple. Here’s a bit of a board that I got from timberline:

    Lewin Universal Planer Parts

I’ve got a Lewin but am at work so can’t photo it for you until later tonight I’m afraid. I do recall that the nicker isn’t slotted though and just reversible (one way it cuts, the other it doesn’t). Follow the link to a pic on alf’s site which also has some more good info on this tool...

    Wadkin AGS 10

Good points by Wallace above. If you still get the same reading then I would try to tighten up the lower gib strip bolt and test again.

    Wadkin AGS 10

Hi woody. I can see your photos now. If your angles are within acceptable tolerances but you are now experiencing too much resistance then I suggest doing as deema has said above. By that I mean ensuring that all of the moving parts are clean and appropriately lubricated, including the gib...
