+1 for painting them white, you will not regret it.
Not sure if it was the quality of the OSB or the paint I used but I got some bleed through, probably from some resinous wood chips, or tanin, when I painted mine.

Tony, plenty of people around here have made same very simple but effective benches. Paul Chapman's was the inspiration for mine.
Here is my interpretation of the the "Chapman" bench. Not the prettiest bench in the world but I think will be fit for purpose.

Pete, I've just had a look at the woodshopdemos site. Sadly it appears that John Lucas died in Feb 2010. I am pretty sure that is who I remember watching. I seem to remember that he frequently managed to find some attractive passers by to help in the workshop. Used a lot of Festool kit as well...
Rather than cut into the table, I know it's sacrificial but if it is used a lot it will soon deteriorate, why not lay a sheet of compressed foam insulation on top of the table and cut into that. The one and only time I have a cut an 8x4 sheet of ply I did this and it worked a treat.
I will be...
My bench top is made of 3 sheets of **18mm MDF** and they work just fine.
I did countersink the top side of the hole which I hoep will prvent wear and tear
All I need now are 39 removable plugs, 1 for each dog hole, to stop various detritus, screws, drills etc falling into the void under the...
Hi,
I may have an opportunity to buy an old Kity 636 :-
But it is 380v - I presume therefore 3 phase.
Do you think that it is possible and easy to either replace the motor or convert to a 240v 16amp supply?
Does anyone have one of these, do you think it is worth a punt at £200
Cheers
Andy
Yeah, getting the heavier pieces up there was a bit of a struggle and I had to split a lot of scrap wood for the sticks.
There is an old truism that states that" stuff expands to fill the space made available for it". I only hope that it does not become "out of sight, out of mind"

Picked this lot up this morning. Longest piece is just under 2.5m, the Berlingo is great for this sort of thing and one of the reasons why it will be replaced with another next year.
If I have done ths maths right it's 0.38 cubic metres, or 13.38 cubic feet of air dried chestnut or...
Have not been since we moved here John, last time we went was before the new bridge was built, it's only 5 mins up the road so I really ought to make the effort.
We meet a lot of the WW2 vets during the village celebrations each year around the 6th June. The more I learn about what went on...
That looks like the US website John. Interestingly they show a DW 734 and DW735 which have 3 knives, they would be interesting. The 3 knife versions do not seem to be on any of the european websites so I guess the discontinued thing is Stateside only?
I may well ask Dewalt UK to see if a 3...
John, No I did not. It seems to be readily available and is still listed on the Dewalt web sites (UK and FR). Are they all just selling old stock? There does not seem to be any alternative on their website either. Do you buy your larger tools locally in France, delivered from the UK or bring...
If I buy and the UK and the supplier ships over here and subsequently the tool fails than I would expect the supplier to arrange collection and return (all be it at, perhaps initially, my expense ).
If I buy in the UK and bring it over myself then I will have to both arrange and pay for return...

The problem when buying stuff when we are over, or having someone bring things out for us, is sorting out any issues if things go wrong with the product back in France. Although I make at least 1 trip a year there is only so much I can squeeze in the car anyway.
Axminster, as you...
Anyone in euroland bought machinery from the UK for european delivery from somewhere other than Axminster? No issues with Axminster or course but they don't do the Dewalt DW733 thicknesser.
www.powertoolworld.co.uk will deliver the dewalt all in for £397. The best I can buy locally is the...
One of our twins came down with pneumonia last winter and although not hospitalised it still frightened the daylights out of us.
I hope David is able to make a full recovery.

I recently made a table for my drill and went with a low fence
It was fine for what I wanted to do at the time ie drill stopped holes. I've since needed to drill through holes with a backing piece to prevent drilling into the table and then the fence becomes too low so I will be adding a...
