New workshop build, with a difference!

Yeah not bad   But what took you so long   I've enjoyed following this from the start and it has been inspiring. I hope you continue with a WIP of the interior. Do you think that you will be in by christmas - a much beloved phase of the TV renovation/build...

    Smart Phones

And when it fails you've lost the lot :D I agree that if you want the WWW on the move than perhaps a smartphone is the way to go. The wife and daughter are currently away skiing and it has been reassuring for them and the twins and I back home to see and speak to them everyday using Skype...

    Smart Phones

Bob, As your phone costs are currently £20 per year I would proffer that you do not need a smartphone. All very well being dragged into the 21st century and all that but I have yet to see the point of theses so called smart phones. Smartphones are very overrated in my opinion and I am beginning...

    external shutters, re build

Richard, I have also replied to your PM. Hi Richard, no trouble at all although your geography is a bit out . I am in Normandie too just NE of Caen. Whereabouts in Normandy are you? I think the correct term is "lame de volet". I did not actually find any ready made in chestnut I am sure I...

    Where to buy replacement batteries?

This thread on WH may be of interest http://thewoodhaven.co.uk/phpBB3/viewto ... ery#p17806 I replaced nicad with nimh on my Bosch drill about a year ago and I have been very pleased with the results. I have to take care when charging though (see Bob 9finger's comments on the thread above)...

    Backing up on a Mac?

I though Time Machine was overblown for my needs. I back up weekly using Carbon Copy Cloner to a Lacie drive. When the old mac died it was easy to recover everything onto the new imac. I also backup pictures to a dvd about once a month. Chers Andy

    Bench Tops

Mark, here is a link to a bench I built earlier in the year. http://thewoodhaven.co.uk/phpBB3/viewto ... nch#p20714 The top was made from a 25mm chipboard desk top and 3 layers of 18mm MDF only the top layer was MRMDF. Each sheet of MDF was lipped with beech to protect the edges. The 3 sheets...

Ripping by hand - scribing with the router

Philipp, I've used it a lot less than you (only two cuts to date) . I used mine on the pull stroke which I believe makes it easier to keep the cut straight. As one uses two hands you have to be central to the board being cut which I also thinks help to keep the cut straight and as one uses both...

Ripping by hand - scribing with the router

Philip, it is good to see someone else using a centre blade frame saw for ripping. When I made one earlier in the year I struggled to answer the question "what is the benefit of a frame saw for ripping over a conventional hand saw?" What do you see as the advantages? cheers Andy

Does anyone eat rabbit anymore ?

We eat it regularly. Readily available in the supermarkets and butchers as Jonzjob has already said but I must say I do prefer to buy them sans tête. Andy

Need to buy some one-hand operated cramps.

John, I use the wolfcraft ones and have no complaints. They are easy to convert into spreaders if required http://www.wolfcraft.de/jcatalog_genera ... oduct.html As well as hold downs I use them for glue ups too. They have soft non-marking pads. One handed operation to open and close Cheers...

Tell me how to build the easiest workbench possible

I'm not going to debate the merits of one bench over another, of aprons, tails vices or any other add on. I put this together earlier in the year based on the "Chapman" bench. A M&T Frame at each end, chipboard back to stop racking, chipboard lower shelf also aids stability, frames also...

Clever. I normally use Widgets if I want a calculator. But being able to write simple equations in spotlight might came in handy. Cheers Andy

    Safari 'funny'

Being as MS Office 2004 for Mac will not work with Lion I'll stick with Snow Leopard. Forking out for Lion and upgrading MS office is just not worth the benefits. Although I have my head in the clouds most of the time, I think that I can do without I-Cloud and most of the other Lion features...

    Safari 'funny'

I dont think that I saw 5.1.2 on software update either. I'll give Lion a miss for the time being. I only upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard when I had to replace the iMac. I'll probably wait until the hardware fails again. Cheers Andy

    Safari 'funny'

Hi Roger, Same thing happend to me Roger and 5.1.2 cured it as well. Also solved a problem I've been having with the embedded video player on the BBC so thanks for the heads up. Out of interest are you on Lion or Snow leopard? - not sure if it is worth the upgrade. Cheers Andy

    Which Workshop Vacuum?

Have you looked at the noise level of the shop vacs you are considering. I've never regretted buying a NVQ model from Numatic NVQ = Very Quite. Vacs do not have to be noisy to be powerful Cheers Andy
