    inch and mm

Gabrielle, I would suspect that the US supplied chisels have had their sizes "rounded". I do not believe that Ashley Isles makes both metric and imperial sizes. Andy

    The Ashes returning Home

I think the reasons are many and varied. Joking aside for awhile I do not think our cricketers are particularly bad. The Aussies were just so much better. England are 2nd in the ICC test rankings. A lot of the problems must be in the mind which to me is one of the responsibilities of the coach...

    Drilling dilemma

Are you using a sharp wood drill - lip and spur? If you are drilling right through the wood then make sure you have a backing piece held tight up to the exit hole area. Andy

    The Ashes returning Home

Close in the end wasn't it? Can't quite imagine how many England players will have regained fitness just in time to get injured before the start of the 2009 series. If only England could string two good days together. If only the tail could bat. If only the bowlers could bowl and if only the...

    Router table construction

J, not sure the colour is to my liking for kitchen or workshop  But I am sure it will do the job. Will this really be a table or will a more conventional cabinet be constructed? Andy

    tv stand WIP

Yep the end result will look great so don't dwell on the mistakes - you'll now better next time. I did a similar thing when routing the groove on the frame and panel door on the chisel cabinet - a year on and even I have to look twice to find the repair. Andy

    Staircase

Are you sure this is not a spring board for the hot tub? Andy

    Lie-nielsen tuning advice

Kell, I will of course bow to the much more knowledgeable folk around here but personally I'd be extremely disappointed if I felt I had to do any of that on a new LN plane. My only LN is a 164 and that worked fine straight out of the box. Andy

    Remote Switching

I guess that means I could turn the heating on in the workshop without having to trudge down the garden. Great idea - thanks Andy

    Cutaway guitar shaped mandolin

Martin, If I'd made something as beautiful as that Id want to show it off too. Please don't tell me you knocked this up at the weekend  Excellent work. Andy

    Bandsaw @ Aldi from Sunday

Wizer, I have seem than over here but not sure where, probably either Ruxley Garden Centre or Polehill .... & Lidl or course. Andy

    Bandsaw @ Aldi from Sunday

Paul, if used correctlly the long handled garden forks & spades, that seem more common in Europe, should put less strain on the back when in use. Longer levers. Andy

    Where is everybody

spare a thought for those of us (or was I the only one) who took a whole week off. I gave up trying to catch up in the end. Tis a real shame that the unread post marker disappears when one switches off for the night. Andy

Tool Review - Bevel edged chisels

Brad, sorry. If you are going to do a chisel review you really must include their ability to lift nails. The one I use has developed a very nice "v" shape in the centre of the edge but this took far to long to achieve. Andy

    Tripp Trapp

Steve, Thanks for reminding me about your post, excellent chairs. The horizontal braces in the trip trapp enable the seat and and foot rest to be easily moved as the child grows. They just slide in and out when the horizontal braces are slackened off. Paul, a typical engineering solution, I...

    Tripp Trapp

Scrit, brilliant - now why didn't I not think of that. Andy

    Tripp Trapp

Scrit, thanks for the head up on the 5ft square panels. I'll have a hunt around locally. I've only every bought 8x4 sheets before from Alsfords, not sure if Finnish but I've yet to find a void. A 5ft square panel, if economical would ceratinly be easier to handle. I've been thinking along...

    Ideas?

Gill, I was about to ask having seen your avatar. Very nice. How thin is that oak? "Jacques Cousteau Who he?" Andy

    Tripp Trapp

Shultzy, I thought by using a quality faced birch ply I could cut the side frames from one piece and therefore not have to worry about the joint between the upright and the "feet". On the original the seat, foot rest and back, are all made from faced ply without lipping and the effect is quite...

How do you store your chisels?

Phil, no they are not SOSS. I got those from Woodfit They were a cinch to fit using a dowelling jig to insure correct placement. One of the hinges has since broken and has left me scratching my head for ways of extracting it as they were a very tight fit. At the moment I'm not sure whether I...
