Interesting pieces of furniture - 4

Looking at the level of interest each one of these threads has produced it is safe to say that they have all been Interesting Pieces of Furniture. Is one allowed to like a design without liking the wood used to execute it? Andy

My New HiFi Unit Installed :)

LN that does look very nice. All those earlier shots of the units in the workshop never gave me a sense of scale. It situ it looks a lot larger. I like it. Andy

Blanket box - finished at last!

Gorgeous, is that a wooden stay too? Is there a slight bow appearing in the top already or (I hope) is it the camera angle? Andy

    Housing joints in ply

Shultzy, 1/4" housings are what's used on the original- admittedly in hardwood though. Jonathan, Although doable I never really thought I'd go ahead with the morticer idea for all the reasons both of you mentioned. To get the 8 solid 7s the grain directions would be all over the place and I...

Model boat, solid pear tree, for the smaller workshop owner

That's gorgeous can you give me an idea of scale? I made a model boat like that from a kit once and that was hard enough. I can imagine how much more satisfying it is to cut all the pieces your self. Great stuff. Andy

    Saturday = Boring

Nah get INSIDE and do something. Had 2 hours in the workshop for the first time in what seems like months. Repaired a broken toy, scrolled out the name of a friends son and made a weaving board for my eldest. Had to explain to her the difference between warp and weft* but she did not get the...

    Housing joints in ply

Hi All, Steve, your router jig for the housings is exactly what I had in mind, much better drawn than I could have achieved - thanks. Paul & Shultzy, every night I go to bed convinced on how I am going to make the housings (and the main joint) and every morning I wake up with a different...

    Housing joints in ply

Exactly the reason why I thought making the sides from a single piece of ply would be such a good idea. I was hoping David C might have chipped in with how he made his. I'll send him a PM. Andy

    Housing joints in ply

J, the two sides are held together by the two black rods in the picture, the back rests and the piece that joins the two feet together. A bolt goes through the sides into the steel rods and knock type t-bolts are used for the back rests and the foot piece. See my earlier thread on the various...

    Removable Skirting Boards

Dave, in my case pulling the old skirting off the wall brought down so much plaster I was able to replaster to get them reasonably flat. Andy

    Housing joints in ply

I've been thinking about angled mortice and tenons to make the 7 from two pieces which method would be stronger not forgetting that this is being made in 1" ply and the stresses involved. Andy

    Maple Kitchen

I'd would have taken it with me  As beautiful as that undoubtedly is and no doubt extremely well made the thought of spending a tidy sum of money on furniture that was only enjoyed for a year or so would break my heart. Andy

    Removable Skirting Boards

The skirting boards I fixed in our childrens bedrooms are screwed to the wall with an unglued tapered plug filling the hole. I made the plug from the same wood as the skirting but I do not think a contrasting wood would have looked out of place. Andy
