The ‘Woodturning Challenge’ 2016 Get your thinking caps on

How about some off centre turning for next year?

The ‘Woodturning Challenge’ 2016 Get your thinking caps on

I am happy with the format as is. I do welcome the feedback especially from the full time pro turners/judges. Doing a "set" of anything may be a challenge too far. A pair is one thing but 6 of a kind I would struggle with.

    Autumn Challenge. THE RESULTS

Thanks Chas And Bob for your thoughts. My shoulders are broad and I do not have an ego so I am more than happy to take on this type of analysis. I hope my asking for a fuller explanation has helped others too. Woodturning clubs are very thin on the ground in France so I am quite happy to use the...

    Autumn Challenge. THE RESULTS

I very much welcome Paul's additional comments. I work very much in isolation without a woodturning club to go to for ideas, critiques and help so all comments are welcome. I do suffer from the belief that I do not have an "artist's eye" so getting things to look "right" is always a struggle...

    Woodturning Autumn 2015 challenge

It is taking me longer to take a decent picture than to turn the vessel.

PLEASE POST YOUR SUMMER WOODTURNING CHALLENGE ENTRY HERE

Fruit Bowl in Chestnut. I am a novice turner, less than 12 months into the spinney side of things. Wood is chestnut finished with carnuba wax. Dimensions 10.5" x 1". Bowl gauge used throughout. Trying to take a decent photo of the profile of the bowl seems to have defeated me.

    Moveable Wooden Base?

Seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut to me. Providing you keep the feet of the existing machine directly above your correctly rated castors then surely all that added woodwork is not necessary unless you really do not want to raise it couple of inches. This really could not be more simple...

Fun little project, help needed !

Hi Stef, only just caught up with this. Cracking job. Looks like you've done a good job with the varnish. I would have thought oil and wax, or dare I say it french polish, might have been a better way to go but if you have achieved a good finish with varnish then well done. I can't see and brush...

Outward opening doors - a cautionary tale

Of course Steve M would not be so stupid Outward opening workshop doors - A cautionary tale The outward opening doors on my barn The bolt that keeps the doors fixed open View from inside the barn that shows what happens if the bolt is not properly turned and held in place in the "up"...

Not misinterpreted at all Bob. I just felt that Axy need to know how many people miss the order history and wish list data. I wonder how many others have asked them for it? cheers

more ipad info sought re safari

Hello Roger, I do hope that we have not heard the last from Tom and that the problems with "over there" can be resolved. The people that I have direct email contact with are as much in the dark at the moment as the rest of us. For the record I never had a problem "over here" other than the size...

    Richard T

I never had the pleasure of meeting Richard but I am a proud owner of two of his holdfasts and followed his plane making exploits from afar. The internet often gets a bad name in the press. People like Richard and many like him who frequent this and many other forums are the unheralded heros of...

more ipad info sought re safari

I'm with Roger on this one. The info must be on a database somewhere so why not port it across to the new site. Secondly why tell us that it will be available soon and then do nothing? If they have done something then why not tell us? I've just asked them for an update on this. If the data is...

My Pizza oven, and its roof

Hi Stef, nice to see that you have not been twiddling your thumbs during the summer :D . This must mean that the inside of your house is all now complete? Are the trestles in your other thread to be used for the roof construction? It has taken me all summer to nearly complete the garden gate...
