Collection boxes and clock for Cambridge Central Mosque

Gotta say, the Cambridge Mosque is probably the most beautiful new building in Cambridge in at least a decade. Phenomenal work with the trusses/roof structure especially.

Cutting openings in the middle of edge-glued solid panels

I ended up cutting the undercut bits off from the biggest opening and glueing on some new lengths on since I wasn't happy with it. The mitred corners aren't perfect since I was in a bit of a rush, but much better than how it was. Glueing freshly planed lengths like this resulted in perfect...

    What cost for European Ash

I was just thinking I wonder if they interpreted Item 1 - 6No legs which are 120x120 and 713 high (3 pieces to be laminated). as 18 pieces (6 times 3) but your invoice clears that up. If that had been the case, and assuming 30% overage on their side then they would have been supplying...

Cutting openings in the middle of edge-glued solid panels

Thanks Spectric and Cabinetman, To be clear, only the adapter was plastic, a Makita one, running along a Festool rail. So the rail shouldn't have flexed. I reckon this approach is still superior to running along a wooden fence, since the wooden fence only counteracts forces in one direction...

Cutting openings in the middle of edge-glued solid panels

Hi, Over the weekend I was working on some cabinets and I needed to cut some medium-sized rectangular openings (e.g. ~100x200mm) in some solid wood panels that I had edge glued together. The wood is north American ash, so fairly hard. I tried cutting a little inside the line with a (guided)...

Your experience with either the Triton MOF001 or TRA001 router?

I have a TRA001 in an AUKTools benchtop mini table (from Woodworkers Workshop, but seems to be discontinued now. Looks identical to the Rutlands one with different branding Premium Bench Top Router Table | Next Day Delivery). This table has a front-mounted switch, so you don't need to fumble...

    Outdoor table top? Which wood?

You might like to consider a timber designed for exterior cladding or decking, like Yellow Balau Hardwood, a popular timber for Decking, Flooring, Cladding. Warm in colour - profiles available Shadow Gap, PTGV, Rain Screen, PAR (haven't used, just an idea). Balau is apparently OK outside without...

Compact chip extractor for lunchbox thicknesser

One additional factor to consider is the tradeoff between airflow and filtration efficacy. The low end HVLP extractors with the cloth bags will catch more chips than a drum-type LVHP extractor, but will allow much more of the fine (dangerous!) dust through and back into the air. The Axminster...

Compact chip extractor for lunchbox thicknesser

I use a Rutlands drum extractor with a 4" hose with my Makita 2012NB lunchbox thicknesser, and it works fairly well. It. doesn't capture 100% of the chips, some come out the front, but it gets almost all of the ones that come out of the back side until the drum gets to ~80% full. I don't notice...

    workshop lighting

Yes, although my workshop walls and ceiling are white so with those ceiling LED battens I get a fairly good diffuse light everywhere without major shadows. I do also have some LED strip under a cabinet on the wall above the workbench.

    Starting out with rough sawn

I am by no means an expert, in fact still very much a beginner, but for what it's worth I've been using a Makita 2012NB lunchbox thicknesser (~£400) and have been getting very good results. The rough sawn timber (ash and oak) I've been starting with has all been fairly straight and twist-free so...

    workshop lighting

I have two of these Philips CoreLine WT120C LED60S/840 150cm in my (somewhat long) single garage workshop (although they were ~40% cheaper when I bought them 2 years ago). I went with a name brand and somewhat over-specced industrial ones since I've had bad experiences with cheap LEDs in the...

Where does all this stuff come from?

I have a bunch of Wham organiser boxes (5.01 Organiser 38cm with 10 Divisions Clear - 12893 - What More UK) – I like them better than Stanley/Sortimo/etc boxes since they much cheaper, waste much less space (better external volume to internal useable volume ratio), and they're clear so you can...

Use of rectangular duct profile for dust extraction?

Thanks very much Pete, Jimmy and Rorschach. I found the Small Shed Youtube videos mentioned, #58 is the start of the dust extraction/ducting series, and a year later (#214) the problems emerge, very interesting! Not directly comparable to what I'm trying to do though, since he's using a LVHP...

Use of rectangular duct profile for dust extraction?

Hi – new here, Wondering if anyone has tried using kitchen extractor style rectangular ducting for dust extraction? I have a low ceiling in my workshop and don't want to have large round ducts hung from it, and I had a scrap of rectangular PVC ducting (204x60mm) left over from my kitchen refurb...
