BM101 - Did you not rip the poop out of Jacob for his suggestion on using candle wax over your suggestion of highly marketed exotic oil?

    SOLD Jet AFS-500 air cleaner

Thank you, however does the reply (in this case Ed's) go to the email address I set up when I joined the forum? If so that could be a problem as I no longer have access to it. If I change address I will most likely lose all previous input over the past decade. Why can't they just let things be???

Things haven't changed that much in 80 years

The best comedy duo ever in my view. However I had always considered woodworking machinery in the 1920's and 30's to be oh, so primitive? Yet the pre movie footage of the machinery replicates much of what we see today, albeit without digitisation. Apart from the large belt feed wheels, of...

Things haven't changed that much in 80 years

The link below is to an old Laurel & Hardy movie. In the movie "Busy Bodies" the calamitious duo start work at a wood mill. In the opening scenes some "real" footage highlights men working on machines very recognisable today. Just thought it may interest some? I wonder how much the Firkin full...

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

Hi Bob, I suspected as much. I se the account up Originally with an email account that is no longer accessible. Since the changes it seems all PM are sent to private email address rather than the internal PM message system. I am reluctant to change until I can establish integrity of my existing...

    Private messages

As a matter of ineterest. Now the site has been rejigged. When sending a PM to a forum member, does the query and ultimate response go to the individuals private email address? I ask as the email address I set up with is no longer accessible. David

    What next plane to make?

You may now find there is less of a threat from U.K. Bidders, due primarily to the currency crash. Not that long ago were were receiving $2US for every £1 Sterling. In effect, tools in the US were half price for us. I have bought several tools from the US in the past. Fortunately, my sister...

Meddings scroll saw serial #JSB 07240

I believe it is purely a on/off function. As it is 3 phase, I have not yet had the chance to run the saw. The speed changes are manipulated by changing a belt on a stepped pulley.

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

Thanks Bob, I will look out for an inverter. Sounds like the way to go. Thanks again all. David

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

Tom/Deema/Bob, Thank you once again gents, very valuable information, gratefully received. On reflection and having considered the option of VFD/inverter installation and conversion to single phase. I have have enough sense to realise it would be folly to disregard the information you have all...

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

Good point Tom, I suspect 4 pole, although I will not be able to confirm until tomorrow. TBH - I am not even sure what a VFD is? Where would I obtain one and information on how to install it. I have a basic understanding of electrical systems and operations albeit more practical hands on than...

Thanks mate, I also added a link from this page to the General Woodworking page. I have a couple of responses there too, yet not on the switch.

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

Tom/Bob, thank you both for your response and information, very much appreciated. I think consideration to an inverter at this time is secondary to perhaps replacing the motor? Since my original post, Meddings have responded to an email I sent regarding a couple of other non essential...

Scroll saw motor 3 phase to single phase??

meddings-scroll-saw-serial-jsb-07240-t111299.html I hope I have added the appropriate link? Basically I bought a Meddings Scroll saw (photos in the link) with a 3phase motor. The plate shows 220v and 380 - 440. Can the motor be reconfigured to run on 230v supply? And if so, will the original...

Meddings scroll saw serial #JSB 07240

Recently I bought a Meddings scroll saw. Although in very good condition there are a couple of small parts missing. I have contacted Meddings in the hope they still stock spare parts for this machine. However the phone number given dials out it does not connect. Does anyone know if they are...
