    Rich, I am not an expert at repairing woodies but I think your one has had the sole cut back to take an inset to close up the big mouth. If I am correct then finding a bit of something nice and hard wearing and glueing it into that gap will improve you plane.

    Alie, Is the headstock spindle bored right though? :-k I remove drive centre on my Perform using a bar thought the headstock, put the bar in the hole, grip centre with rag in right hand and tap the end of the bar with a hammer in the left hand, centre pops out, if it has been there a long...

    I have turned a couple of pens in yew, very nice to turn, very nice finish, but for a good finish just from the wood try some african black wood. It shines when buffed with a grey webrax very nice.

    For this sort of work the choice of blade is important, I have now reached the end of my knowledge :oops: as I have never ripped green oak, but I am sure someone who has will be along soon. :D

    If you want a small curved sole plane, have a word with Philly, last year at Yandles he had one that we all played with. I am not sure that he lists them on his web site but he has made them. 8)

    Something I found out a little while ago, they are not bronze any more, they are plated steel, try them with a magnet. :whistle:

    If the new motor has a bigger spindle than the old one then I would look round for a small machine shop near you and have them rebore the pulley to fit the new motor, should only cost a few bear tokens. 8) I did this with the pulley for my Wadkin table saw when I changed it to single phase. :D

    The skew also help keep the work tight down on the bed of the shooting board. :)

    Hi BTR, A couple of points, saying where the machine is would help people with their decision and using all upper case is considered to be SHOUTING, you will get a better response if you don't do that.
