    A further Alzheimers test

Looks the same to me :? This test is actually about the importance of words in language. A non english speaker, and certainly someone who uses a non-latin alphabet, or who is illiterate will always get 6. (perhaps that explains why i got 6 :o )

    A further Alzheimers test

I got 6.... that make me genius apparently, according to david brown, so the test is clearly flawed... and not related to alzheimers...

    Sketchup Pro?

Totally agree. However I have used it for 3 years, and finding tutorials focused on woodworking improved my ability more than anything else. for example, shift-erase to hide, and outline view are really valuable tools, however I have never even heard of them before. so a bit of focused...

    Sketchup Pro?

I've been using free for a number of years, including designing a house. I think the pro version offers benefits for complex architecture, never heard anything anywhere that suggests pro has much to offer woodworkers. Just what i've heard mind...

    Idiot's guide to shellac needed

I applied french polish a while back, which i think is a thick cut of shellac in essence and put cotton wool in the middle rather than another cloth. I mixed my first batch from flakes yesterday, using denatured alcohol rather than meths. I did a 3 pound cut, enough to last 3 months and then...

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

It's a very good point. I think i will change them rarely, as I turn maybe 1-2 hours a week, and 80% will be with 2" or center drive. So I am happy to live with that for now, however will bear it mind!

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

I did better, I went to their factory! Doesn't mean I am much the wiser about actually using them in the wild ;-) No one seems to think so far that Sorby are expensive rubbish, so I am still leaning that way as I have a local supplier...

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

I have looked at axminster, and gather they are not making their "best" chuck anymore, however it may be back on the market at some point... problem is I don't really want to wait. I was wondering if Sorby was "best in breed" as I have found out the hard way about buying cheaper stuff...

ah yes sorry, there are two though, the 25mm normal and 25mm pin, that are extended out about 5cm or so... they slightly different as opposed to

LOL, at toolpost it's 126, however + VAT and £40 delivery, makes it £190 - so the same both ways...

Good idea, I was looking at the 1" pin jaws as often i need to hold thin narrow pieces and the extra length might help - tried those?

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

Ah, the 190 euros is without VAT, so I think an order from toolpost may be "in order". I assume the 2" jaws do bowls up to about 10" which is pretty much my max capacity on lathe anyway, so may not need other accessories, was actually thinking i might need the smaller ones at some point, as...

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

£126 at toolpost, add on say £15 for delivery, that's £140 = 163 euro vs 190 euro here, so i guess i could do. Sometimes things take a month or get lost, that's my only concern....

Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck - Any Views

I have a Scheppach DMT 540, which is quite small. It came with an 80mm faceplate and a centre. Now I want to start turning things that really need holding in jaws. I was looking at the Sorby Patriot, as it comes with the correct M33 built in, however it's quite expensive at £170. (I can get...

    Minature Birds

Not at all, lets see some photos of the results is my only request ;-) with the extra odd euro thrown in by kind souls like Boysie, I could start an export business! I'd need to export 1,500 a day to make any kind of living... :-k

    Network cable to the workshop

I used to use homeplugs, however only as a last resort. They absolutley kill shortwave radio for potentially miles around... My dad is a hobby woodworker and keen radio enthusiast, and lives in a rural area, yet has almost had to give up the hobby. I don't expect the general public to care...

Track Saws. What point am I missing?

I was kind of joking that I haven't got the vac as it starts the slope, however was enquiring whether the vac was any good as I might get one! I have the saw however not used yet as waiting for my things from storage to be delivered to Italy... Looking forward to it, was cutting panels today...

Track Saws. What point am I missing?

Yes, once you have the vac you may as well get everything, that's why I haven't bought it... Btw, any good? ;-)
