    And now to buy

With that lot you should be able to build yourself a good fort to take refuge in! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

trend or kreg or ukj or dakota jig?

I like the kreg and got it on offer. I've not tried the others. Dakota has mixed reviews regarding quality so it probably depends how much you want to do. I also would prefer torx. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Dakota heavy duty aluminium parallel clamps

If bessey are the Rolls Royce, then these Dakota clamps are the proverbial Skoda. However like a Skoda they will get you from a to b quite adequately. Just not in a lot of comfort. The heavy duty jaws are moulded plastic and feel very cheap. The aluminium bar feels cheap. The screw mechanism...

    Thieves and burglars

Some chill pills in order, I think someone calling an ex-para, with 15 years martial arts, a military avatar, who suggests when someone comes at you with a knife to get in close and have them, "Rambo", tongue in cheep with smiley face is completely acceptable. Calling someone a complete idiot...

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

That's good news! I just had my next lot delivered, so far 400sqm of 10cm thick insulation, and we're not finished yet! Do you think it's going to be easy to put that jigsaw together though? a Japanese saw is excellent for cutting it I found.

    To Laminate or Not?

Thanks, that's certainly an idea to get round the large board wastage problem. I am taking a lot of pride in this, many of my friends are builders, roofers, carpenters, joiners, and tend to scoff at my level of attention to details. (When you're raising a roof tolerances are different I tell...

    To Laminate or Not?

My Kitchen drawers will be dovetailed maple on the outside, however I have some options for the inside. One is to just use the wood - however then I need some maple veneered 12mm and 8mm plywood which is pretty expensive and comes in 3mx2m panels, which is too much. I could use stick grey...

    Planer Technique or Setup?

Thanks, clear now! I have been setting to the out feed table which should be parallel to the block. I watched all of marc's videos, however perhaps time to review a few. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Knocking stuff down is fun and easy. Now you have to measure and lift and join and work stuff out ;-) I'm sure it will be fun too! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

    Planer Technique or Setup?

I am afraid you have completely lost me... Reading on you mention adjusting outfeed, and I think you're talking about the cutter head block not being aligned? On my table these are fixed as far as I can tell and you can only adjust the infeed. At least that's how it's intended and how Alan...

    Thieves and burglars

Makes me glad to live where I do. Just today I saw four bikes from the local school all leaned up against my allotment wall and unlocked with helmets hanging from handlebars. The school's 100m away but a sharp drop so all the kids leave bikes there.even the teachers. I remember thinking that...

    Using mahogany

I am not sure it's like ivory. One could be renewably farmed and the other always involves killing animals. I would never have ivory in the house.but I would show off renewable mahogany items and make pains to explain it. When someone says "gee, that's a nice piano"(if I could ever build one...

    Planer Technique or Setup?

Thanks both.glad to know my tolerances are ok. I put the blades higher and if I keep weight at front avoid snipe. Any pressure at back I get quite a bit. I still have some wobble on a flat surface however it's nothing the joinery won't remove. I have 1mm gap between two corners. The edging is...

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

Andy,I have the 55 and sometimes wished I'd gone for the grunt of the 75. I am also using the standard blade which is meant for sheet goods, really I should get the rip blade, but balk at 100 euros for a blade. Phil,I will be doing just that, it's called the split top roubo, and the wood...

    Planer Technique or Setup?

I've been planing some fairly cupped 34mm Maple, and was doing ok until one board whilst being edge jointed became tapered without ever removing material from the back end. I was pressing down lightly in the middle of the board. With a straight edge I can see the edge is slightly concave. I...

    Advice on scribing please

Reading all the replies and ideas, I am finding it very difficult to visualise this. I am about to embark on some built in furniture, so would be interested if you have any other resources on what all this filleting etc is? Thanks.

Lumber Question - Using Cupped Boards

So, finally did some planing of the 34mm boards, and first few were great, retained most of the thickness and was able to resaw a couple of smaller ones. Then when edging one I was in the zone and only realised after a minute that I had tapered the board without ever getting a full pass on the...

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

Found some saw horse replacements for the beer crates, and my back has already sent me a thank you present and card. I also found the track saw cutting out quite often due to overheating, so I went and lumped my extraction up to the barn which seems to help cool it. Sent from my GT-I9100...

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

Well I'm now cutting the boards for the kitchen so I'm not sure about that ;-) Thankfully I have the use of this large barn to work in. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
