    WIP Roubo: Finishing

I did feel that using the right blade would have better, however for the price... I didn't know about holding the trigger whilst cooling. What's a man awl? I still have non square front and back, but good enough for my needs! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

So I laminated the seven boards after much lugging and planing / thicknessing. I then had to go to my brother in laws construction company to pick up 80 osb sheets for my house build and I suggested we take my slabs. Ten minutes after we arrived I have flat and parallel slabs! So so so much...

    Grain orientation for buttons

It's possible based on forces you plan to exert that buttons will not be strong enough. I never heard of anyone using that for a work bench. In any case you normally want grain running in direction of longest dimension. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

So I got four laminate strips planed. I had to use the skip planing method and although my shop is eight metres it was pretty tight. I managed to edge them, however one has a clear bow along the edge. I maintained five cms thickness so four is enough for front slab. I then used my domino to...

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Yes, it's probably overkill what I was thinking of. Basically it means any water either side does not touch wood. They are also good fro getting your building square. So the slab does not have to be exactly level, or square, which is hard, but you can use shims to get the mudsill exactly...

WIP first kitchen. Hob/Oven Installation Question

Ah, yer, that was my project from last year. A real labour of love. From computing and graphics, to electronics, setting up sound responsive LED mood lighting on the back, pull out console (so we can play golf) - it took over a year, and it's still not finished! Not much chance to play at the...

WIP first kitchen. Hob/Oven Installation Question

So I found some more pieces cut ready to plane, and counted again, and that made 13 drawers. But I have 12, so I counted again, and counted the drawers in the plan, multiple times. I am going mad! So I go through the stack looking at what I've written on the parts and ticking them off...

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

I'm done now! :D Still probably good advice for others. I did it in multiple passes to try to avoid stressing the tool.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

They did a mudsill on my house. It's much easier to fix a sill to the concrete and to get it all square etc than when you're working with great big walls. It's then much easier to initially fix wooden walls to other wood than concrete, especially if they are large and heavy. I suppose it...

    WIP Roubo: Finishing

So when I have to switch off the planer at 11 pm (even though the neighbours say it doesn't disturb them), I get some time away from kitchen drawers and back on roubo. I have been hand planing the edges of my laminate timbers to clean up the "track sawing from both sides" mess. So I am looking...

WIP first kitchen. Hob/Oven Installation Question

Whilst I wait for new workshop and can't do the sheet goods I have started on milling drawer parts. Twelve drawers' worth of sides and backs/fronts are planed one side and edge. Eight bin bags of chips already. The idea is to take them down to twenty mm thick and leave them in old house for a...

    A Couple of Sketchup questions?

I don't understand why it's "bad" to make groups. No one has come up with any reason. Components can be useful for repeated parts, however you have to learn to orient them, and I think with no assumption of the users level of computer literacy, learning simple things first and getting more...

    A Couple of Sketchup questions?

Yes.that seems to make sense. I think the important thing for a beginner is to make the groups to avoid simply reshaping other parts which are not separable. Components then take you to next step where you can modify multiple items at once. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
