    Got it.

    Ply or MDF?

6mm is too big, so go bigger? not sure I understood that part of your response. Once you've pinned in a back, it will be flat anyway, however I'd be tempted to go MDF for the back. Having said that I always use ply for drawer bottoms, and therefore as I have a stack of it, I end up using ply...

    Feeling very guilty :(

Seem to be quite a few people round here knowledgeable about birds, and good to see so many looking out for wildlife. During my house build I had the unhappy task of removing no less than 5 nests from inside the house. The windows were covered with plastic, however despite that and a veritable...

Still very happy indeed with my xcalibur (harvey) which ticks most of the boxes above and is about 1,500

A new way to make draw boxes

The problem with traditional is cost. Friend went to joiners to get quote for a room, and it was about 18 thousand euros. Compared to. Thousand odd at ikea for the same setup. Hence my local firms seem to mostly be doing restaurants and hotels, and are closing or consolidating. Hence I plan...

    The Skew

You must be very old! The hardest one was the large round on the square section (third from left if you include the chamfer on the end). It's easy to dig in as the square corner comes around and get a large catch. This wood is 2x2, I did start that one on a 3x3 and got quite a few...

    The Skew

Allan Batty video + this Raffan one where he deliberately gets catches to show how, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOvF5f1phhY inspired me to try some tests. I've tended to avoid the skew for anything other than planing on the round, ie no beads etc, and I've avoided beads completely really as...

Wish I could get him to teach me, that's probably the most useful video on turning I've seen. I'm getting catches often, going to go and practice all those now.

    Hi all

Welcome to the forum! That's quite an open question you have there, where to start indeed! You could probably do worse than: - Get a book on woodworking from the library, Collins "Complete Woodworker's Manual" is considered a good stock text - Google "beginners woodworking" and other terms...

    Workbench - some assembly required.

I think it needs to be in sun for quite a while, it changes colour over months rather than a day... I did my bench at 90cm which is perfect for me for sanding, routing etc, and still good for planing (I'm 6'2"), i tried 105 with a 1" board on top and it seemed like I would be holding tools in...

Foil Tape for Dishwasher to go under counter top

Thanks. We don't open until the red floor light is out, however there's still "wet air" and it's clearly having a small effect, so seems god idea to install some tape. I got a new Bosch, however no tape came with it, I'll get some of Axi next time I place an order. Thanks everyone!

    Workbench - some assembly required.

It's a first world problem for sure ;-) Try a bench where you don't have to though, and you quickly get used to it! I still need to do the sliding deadman on mine, and the centre strip, however now it's usable, I am using it, kitchen build still ongoing!

    Cove Cutting on Table Saw

That's what I said! Given you get ellipse on vertical (straight), I wondered what point there was to tilting, however now I see that it increases the ellipse. Reading you again though, are you sure it's symmetrical with straight blade? If you sight down at say 45deg, the crest is closer to...

    Workbench - some assembly required.

Even with the mortise and tenon you can still separate the top. The mortises help hold it very square, with no racking, however I screwed the rails to the top with carriage bolts so I can take it off. I also made the end cap with doevtails, again not glued. The idea is I can remove the end...

    Cove Cutting on Table Saw

I think you'd get that effect with a straight blade, the only way to avoid would be to pass the wood over at right angles. I could be wrong. Tilting the blade would increase the effect, so I'm only unsure of something different now, thanks :D

    Workbench - some assembly required.

By the way, the Maguire leg vice does not use a pin mechanism, rather a steel rod at a slight angle. (At least the wooden leg vice screw that I got from Richard did) I built almost the exact same thing, split top. wip-another-roubo-t80579-45.html Pictures there of leg vice. I did mortice and...
