    heat treatment for woodworm??

Better off putting it in the freezer for 3 days, taking it out (the little blighters think they've survived a harsh winter) allowing the wood to defrost for a couple of days and then back in freezer for another 3 days. Tends to work.

    Japanese v English Pattern Saws

Thanks for the replies. I've used jap saws for a number of years. Sun Child Dozuki and Restorers Saw for dovetails, i've also got a Ryoba from Bear/Vaughan. I was asking because i've twisted the blade on the Sun Child (through age/wear) and was looking at going down the english route with LN's...

    Lie-Nielsen Low angle Smoothie v No.4

Thanks very much for the replies. I have various LN's but don't have a smoother. Keep thinking about getting one for finishing off the planer so thought i may save a few quid by getting the 164, however looks like the 4 1/2 is the one to go for.

    HTC HTC2000 Universal Mobile Base

I've got two of these kits on E-bay at the moment if you're interested. One brand new still in the original box. The other used. Getting rid of them as separates gone and they won't lift the Felder.

    Lie-Nielsen Low angle Smoothie v No.4

Hi folks, Anyone directly compared the Lie-Nielsen low angle smoother against a Lie-Nielsen No.4 smoother? Is there much in it? Enough to justify the cost difference? Opinions/comments welcome.

    Japanese v English Pattern Saws

Hi folks, Sure this one has been asked before but, has anyone out there used both Japanese saws and english pattern saws and found a definite preference? I don't mean just for one specific thing i.e. dovetailing but in general (although if you're convinced that the Japanese saws far out class...

UK Felder Group - A waste of time

Freetochat try contacting Robland (as combi sold by Axminster). I spoke the sales guy there and he said he'd demo anything for me or he'd arrange for someone local to me with one of their machines to demo it for me. SCM/minimax made similar suggestions. Hammer/Felder can only demonstrate the...

Sale of goods act / credit cards

Thank you all for your valuable replies. I'm going to ring Felder again in the morning. Will report back. What are your opinions on the accuracy of this fence? I've had machines before, but they've always had accurate fences (even cheaper ones). I'd have thought that this was fundamental to...

Sale of goods act / credit cards

The machine is a Hammer (part of the Felder group) hence why i expected top quality. What are peoples views on the accuracy concerned? From what i know of the sale of goods act would a person "reasonably" acept this?

Sale of goods act / credit cards

The last conversation i had with the UK manager discussed the sale of goods act as a threat. He said it's within tolerance! i explained there is no mention of tolerances within their literature or video and the sales man didn't mention it. I e-mailed them (6/7/05) with a copy of the main points...

Sale of goods act / credit cards

Anyone ever gone down the route of returning goods under the sale of goods act or getting a refund for an item through a credit card? The reason i ask is as follows: Bought a woodworking combination machine from a company at Woodmex last year (major company with an excellent reputation...

    Machines from Hammer

I wish i could say more, but due to ongoing "discussions" with Felder feel i can't. Let's just say save your money and buy a real Felder, not a pretender!!!! Scheppach seem pretty good, especially now they've gone over to cast iron.

    Market Research Question 1: Shellac

I buy mine from Fiddes at the moment and use their Transparent shellac powder. This comes in a clear plastic container with a screw top lid (bit like the old sweetie jars). I buy it a Kilo (£14.01) at a time and this last ages considering i'm doing this professionally. I'd always go with...

    FAO restorers. HELP!!!

Tony, As has been suggested one of the most likely problems is that the table top is fixed rigidly to the frame with no room for the top to expand and contract. The fact that it's in next to those patio doors (are they south facing?) and maybe getting a lot of sun (we wish!) on the top probably...

    W.O.R.M.!!!!!!!

Loso, Yes, you can kill of the little critters by freezing them. You need to put the infected timber in a freezer (about -18C) for a week, then bring out the timber into normal conditions, then freeze them again for a week.apparently they can survive the 1st freezing, but then wake up when...

Refinishing a dining table and chairs

Stanley, Depends on how confident/competent you are re finishing. Also depends on what the original finnish was. Could be Shellac - seen this a few times, or a laquer type finish. If your looking to re shellac it i.e. French Polish it, can you do that? If it's a laquer finish then to replace...
