Which workshop lighting to buy ?

Hi m8. Yes, striplights with daylight tubes are generally best for all round light. Its being discussed as we speak :) https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8086 Then use anglepoise or halogen spots for direct lighting ie. on the bandsaw/drillpress etc. This is a pretty common...

make pine look like oak (colour that is)

Hi Tom. IIRC I used a Georgian Medium Oak finish and a finishing wax on TPTB's coffee table giving a nice result. Not sure of the make. It may have been Colron - from one of the 'Sheds'. Focus or B&Q possibly. I know, not very professional, eh :oops...

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

Hi all. I've been considering the Axminster AW106 P/T which got a fairly good review in GWW, IIRC. http://www.axminster.co.uk/recno/2/product-Axminster-AW106PT-Planer-Thicknesser-21361.htm The only thing that concerns me is the motor power - 1100W. Is it gutsy enough? Most other P/T's of...

    Spalting

Yes I've heard of this before. Something to do with leaving it in a bag with compost and other things I think. I'm no expert as I don't do turning but it can be done, I'm sure. FWIW I hope this helps m8. Someone will be along who knows better than I ;) Gary

    bench seat/table

Thanks for the kind comments folks, they are much appreciated. Hopefully my luck (and joints :)) will hold out and it will stay together. I was originally going to 'breadboard' the ends but sadly the wider hardwood I had wasn't long enough. Plus I didn't think I had time to fit these into the...

    bench seat/table

Hi folks. Just thought I'd share my latest project with you all and see what you think. Sorry if it's quite a long post... We needed more seating for Xmas - (ie. short-notice) so thought I would knock up a bench seat that could be used for a side table, kind of a dual-usage piece really when...

    Workbench for under £30 WIP

Nice work, mate! :D Looking good there. ;) Just in the middle of refitting the workshop myself so I'm kinda doing a similar thing. Only difference is I dont have room for a standalone unit so I've used an old bench that I got from work and butchered it a bit  I think the top is only...

    Dovetail guide

I'm planning on making my own dovetail jig using 9mm aluminium plate and making a system similar to the Trend DJ 300 unit. Just wondering if anyone can give me some dimensions for the slots. ie width of slot, spacings between, depth of slot. Maybe someone knows of a plan to build such a...

    Perform ccj planer

Noooo, don't bin it mate! Surely some kind of Heath Robinson affair could be fashioned if you can't get the parts....:) If not, I have a home for sick, poorly and abandoned tools/machinery/wood offcuts etc. etc. right here in me back yard!!! :D :P Seriously though, Axminster should be able to...
