    IROKO? OH NO!

Hi Dave, I may be going a bit over the top with saying pieces like stones but have you never seen white powdery residue at the edge of a cut. I have bought from different suppliers but still find the stuff. I have often found after thicknessing, the knives can have small nicks in them and when...

    IROKO? OH NO!

HI, Does anyone have the same problem with Iroko as me. I know that some timbers have mineral deposits embedded in them but the luck I have is unreal. I've hit small, stone sized calcium pieces everytime I use the stuff which results in trashing new saw blades and putting good sized chips in...

Biscuit Jointer - What to get?

HI, I have the Dewalt and use the Makita and Bosch at work. The DW in my experience is a good solid and accurate tool. The Makita is a lower powered machine and I find that it struggles in hard woods when plunging to size 20. The Bosch is a good tool but the fence does wander under pressure...

    MDO? yes or no

Hi Ian, Cheers for the advice, diddn't realise it would be so expensive, I was expecting somewhere around MDF prices but if it's not that common then that's probably why. For them prices I could use birch ply anyway. cheers, jonny.

    Workbench

Hi Matt, I wouldn't bother going to the expense of using a poly eurathane glue over such a wide area. I assume the bench is permanantly indoors so there is no problem of it having to be weatherproof or anything so a general PVA with the screws from underneath as you suggest will suffice. Also...

    MDO? yes or no

Hello Noel, Thanks for the reply, I wasn't going to use the MDO for the top surface, just wanted to have a try using it for the carcass if I could get hold of some. I thought it might take the screws much better than MDF. Could use birch ply but a little costly really. Might be good old MDF...

    Cheaper sheet material....but please read

Hi Lynx, I've worked at a couple of joiners shops who have invested in a chipper and heating system that makes use of all the waste. It might seem a large investment to lay out initially but cold winters and free heating certainly maid my bosses realise it was worth it. Just a thought. cheers...

    MDO? yes or no

HI, Can anyone tell me if we can get hold of MDO (medium density overlay) over here? Norm uses it all the time and i have yet to find the stuff. The combination of plywood core with mdf outer faces is just the ticket to build my new router table and various jigs. cheers, jonny.

    table saw

Hi, While you on the subject of woodford and Excalibur, I would just like to put a spanner in the works for all the people thinking of the cabinet saw from Excalibur. I was reading some of my old magazines last night and found a table saw review from the states. The 10 inch single phase cabinet...

Feeling very sorry for myself and teensy bit worried

Hi Rog, I'm sure that no serious damage can be caused by any type of massaging and probably due to not being used to it. I'm sure it will subside by tommorrow. cheers, jonny.

    Machine Fart!

I had been buying from Machine Mart since I was 16 years old, I had never in all that time had to take anything back for any reason. My gripe is not with the branch I visited but the whole way that the company and it's service and warranty managers dealt with the whole experience. And to top it...

    Machine Fart!

HI, After many requests for a refund with no luck I decided to phone E/B myself and find out what was going on. The so called technical fella at E/B reminded me of Machine Marts engineer and you would have had to listened to him to realise what I was up against. When I contacted trading...

    Jet Supersaw questions?

Cheers Alf, It seems as though someones already beaten me to the idea of swapping the arbor. I've been talking to a lad over in the States with a supersaw and while Jet over here don't like to get involved in the area of dado blades, the guy in the U.S. is trying to get confirmation for me from...

What's the best / safest way to do this?

Hello L.E, I first decided on the 316 after working at a joiners shop that had one of the old models, vitually the same but green and an extruded aluminum table. Firstly on opening the box I saw this cast iron table fall out and could have honestly used it for a cheese grater, the...

    Routing on end grain

Hi, I'm with Mcluma and Jason on this one, running the router (base on the timber surface) with a slot/biscuit cutter would be best. cheers, jonny.

    Moisture resistant MDF

Hi, I use a lot of the M/R mdf for bar fitting, the sort we use has a brown formica type surface on both sides it has the green core and even though it is moisture resistant, it has been known to blow apart if in contact with area's which are very wet. cheers, jonny.
