    Dangerous oak, beech dust particles

Darren, I think this may be due to German standards being especially keen. In most instruction manuals, the dust and noise levels are usually alway's referring to German levels of health and safety. cheers, jonny.

    Loud noise

HI, Why are the thicknessers with universal motors so loud? I have a Dewalt one and the noise that comes from it extremely disturbing. Are thre any quieter one's around apart from induction run machines? cheers, jonny.

    Record Bench Vice

Hi Art, I have a really old 52 1/2 which is a quick release vice with 9 inch wide jaws and an opening capacity of 11 inch. I know that they still make this one with a small adjustable dog on the front jaw. Don't know anything about a 53 though, sorry. cheers, jonny.

    Tools for Africa

HI Howjoe, You make the point that colleges should be responsible for their own funding and it's up to them to provide the nessesary tools for the student's needs. I get the impression that you claim the problem or lack of tools/equipment is directly a consequence of bad managemet and an...

    Tools for Africa

HI, Regardless of all the political issues around this, my point about tools for Africa was to try and express my view that giving good tools to countries who may well benefit from them while accepting that our own needs don't matter or are never reported. After all, what looks best in the...

    STACKED DADO?

HI, You have to remember that slimshavings lives in the states where dado blades come in more sizes than here. I personally have only seen the freud stacked dado set here in 8 inch or 10 inch dia. Both of these have a choice of 30mm or 5/8 bore. There will however be dado sets from years ago...

    Tools for Africa

Hello, While reading my latest edition of good woodworking I was paying particular attention to the article about woodworkers being able to help Africa by means of timber trade and also the giving of tools to enable people there to make a living. The reason why this story stood out was because...

    250mm/10" tablesaw blades

HI D.W, As far as I am aware, you are quite alright to use a saw blade right up to the edge of the bore if it was possible. I've never heard of any limits being imposed on how deep it's ok to cut. Just use the blade up to the saw's maximum capacity, i'm sure there's no problem in doing that...

    STACKED DADO?

HI, You will struggle to find a 6 inch dado with 30mm bore anywhere. If I were you i'd cut a piece of card at 8 inch and check that on your radial arm for clearance. A ten inch saw should accept an 8 inch dado which you can get with 30mm bore at loads of places. cheers, jonny.

    Biscuit Jointers (plate Jtrs.)

HI 74extiger, I have been using power tools from over there in the states for six or seven years and I have not encounted any speed or motor issues from using your voltages. I buy them from a supplier called coastal tool in Conneticut and i've had drills, saw's, compressors, biscuit...

    JET SUPERSAW

Hello, as i have had the saw for two months now, i feel it appropriate for the review. On arrival the saw is packaged well, safely and stood on a pallet. Arrives virtually constructed with only the fence, left wing/right wing or sliding table and outfeed table to fit. The qualityof cast iron...

    Elektra Beckum BAS250 bandsaw

HI, Too right Waka, the Electra Beckum engineer even told me that the old green 315 saw was made much better in Germany, where as the curren't blue BAS 316 is made to tight budgets in Tiawan. cheers, jonny.

    Elektra Beckum BAS250 bandsaw

HI, That Dev's a lucky so and so. If the machine had been from Machine Mart, it would have been a case of them saying "but the wheels turn and still cuts wood" like I got with an Electra Beckum. cheers, jonny.

    Jet JTS-250/250s Tablesaws

Hello, I've had a brain wave on how to use a dado for your Supersaw for less than the cost of a packet of ****. Why not just buy half a dozen blade insert rings at 30mm dia and 16mm bore from Axminster for about a quid each and put one on each outer blade or chipper on the dado blade, then fit...

    Cabinet top advice sought

Hi Wizer, Don't get too hung up with the air bubbles and rollers, applying a 9mm thick sheet will have minimal problems with trapped bubbles as opposed to thin vaneers or laminates. Once both surfaces have gone tacky, I usually lay thin 20mmx20mm battens across the ply and lay the mdf on top of...
