    Japanese Combination Waterstone from axminster

I have the 1000/6000 and use them in true David Charlesworth style (got his DVD see) I was very pleased with it, but I do realise it wears much quicker than my DMT - there's always a down side huh!

    Concave Spoke Shaves?

In the latest project (My version of David Savage's Love Chairs IV) I am at the stage of rounding the legs, I've decided to do this by hand rather than shaper/router as there is less change of messing it up. And I was thinking about a concave spokeshave to help me. I only have the normal flat...

Good tip over the Italian British difference, I have lived in a number of countries and am aware of different (and even better would you belive) approaches (mind you nothing beat the british electrical regs - for years I've missed switches on sockets and 5A lighting circuits!) I just wanted a...

Book advice for a life changing decsion

Well we've finally bit the bullet and we are getting out of the rat race and moving to Northern Italy. We had a house there for a while, reasonably OK with the language, so we thought, what the hell let's do it. Now we have an old chesnut roasting house in the grounds of our house which I will...

    Woodwork course - I need a hug !!!

Yes it get's easier, I was taught this way too, then later moved onto machines. I think you apprecaite the machines beter if you already know how to do it by hand. In many cases making things by hand for one offs is quicker than the machine - honest. Hang in there and remember it's all in the...

Looking for Mike Humphrey of Woodcraft Training in Ely

He spends half of his time in Africa (where he is the African Norm Abraham (TV show)), he purposely doesn't answer his email when he is away, and he does not publicise his email too much as he find people only want free advice. I have done 3 courses with Mike and had noticed too his web was...

    Cheap HVLP Spraygun

Well after a trip back to Wales to pick it up (I was coming home anyway) and finishing the holiday then finally dealing with the backlog at work, I've finally found some time to have a go at HVLPing. Works a treat, I first painted the rabbit transportation box with new stain, then I painted...

    Plane storage/racks

I mounted them at an angle, but due to rather bad planning (or should I say bad planing  ) the short planes fall out  So I added rare earth magnets under all the planes, top n bottom, to hold them in. This is based on the Beckfoorts tool cabinet featured in Fine Woodworking...

    Dog holes

There are many things - well a few anyway - about my bench that irritate me, but even dog hole spacings have never given me any issues, what makes them PITA bread for you Alf? I'm curious as I've nearly finialised my new bench design and it has even dogs - but there is still time to change!

    Dog holes

The distance between the dogs needs to be less than the maximum extension of the vice where the moving dog is housed (minus the wide of the dog), on mine that's about 25 cm

Sawblades - CMT vs Freud ?

I have both - both are excellent but if pushed I'd say my Frueds are my favourites (they are also quieter - noticably)
