Best Dust/Chip extractors for small workshop - Advice Please

Is there a good place to understand the hplv vs lphv discussion? In my simple head if you put a reducer on the end of a dust extractor then at that point it's hplv, but that probably just demonstrates my total lack of knowledge!

    Dust extraction / chip collector

    Ordered! Arrives next week :)

    Dust extraction / chip collector

Thanks. I'm going to go for the FM300BC and cartridge, and various other bits. Not sure how much luck I'll have, but I'm also going to try and haggle with Axminster in the shop - by the time I've added on all the other bits and pieces I want to make a full system, that £348 becomes £561 at their...

    Dust extraction / chip collector

There are many threads on this, so I wanted to be quite specific. I'm going to put some proper extraction in my workshop, and would like it to be wall mounted for space. Main functions will be hookup to a radial arm saw and a router table, also doubling as a shop vac. I always wear a mask when...

    Treating woodworm in woodstore

Will do custard, I'm only on my phone so browsing is a pain hence the quick question :)

    Treating woodworm in woodstore

My old man has a wood store in the roof of a barn, which is dry but subject to hot/cold changes. He has found woodworm in some of the wood stored there (a mix of logs, par, partial furniture pieces) and was planning to burn the lot to get rid of the woodworm. Is there any form of treatment that...

Wall Mounted Lumber Rack - Weight/fixings question

They look interesting. The way they're made, could I cut an upright in half and make two sets of 3 shelf racking rather than one of 6? That would be utterly perfect...

Wall Mounted Lumber Rack - Weight/fixings question

As this is a specific question I thought I'd make a specific thread for it. It's been suggested to me that I get my lumber off the floor to gain some workshop space, and initially the view was to hang it from the ceiling. Since I don't have exposed rafters in the garage, and I already have...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

Right, few things... - Thanks cusimar9, makes me realise how big a single garage can look! What dust extractor is that and how good do you find it? I realise from looking at your picture that I'm really wasting the higher wallspace, so I'll sort that. Is your saw bench made from maple, or is...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

I guess as a hobbyist I'm loathed to ditch the ras. Since I can have one end if the table overhang my lathe, it only has a floor footprint of 1mx1m, and since I already have it, it's free! I'm considering storage options for my planked timber, a rack from the garage roof joists is the front...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

I've just got a couple of daylight bulbs in there at present that to be fair give great light, but I can't claim to be slim enough to let light pass through me!!

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

Going to get them tonight so I'll find out. It's something that has crossed my mind as they're made for a workshop but give precious little research information other than being branded by Rolson.

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

This has been great, thanks guys. I've formulated a plan of attack... 1) Cover floor with EVA interlocking tiles. £32. bargain. 2) General restructure of layout to maximise timber size that can be used on the bench and the RAS 3) 3 runs of horizontal French cleats from waist height upwards at...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

Thanks. Just tracked down somewhere I can get Rolson flooring tiles for £32 for enough to do my garage, perfect :).

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

If I know where the studs are, do I really need ply over Osb? I'll check out the flooring, thanks. When I put power into the garage I covered it in double sockets at shoulder height, so that's one thing I managed to get right first time at least :). Pondering whether I need to clad the place...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

I reckon I can clad out the workshop for £270 as OSB2, or £370 as Ply. That's based on a total wall run of 13.5m, and 2.4m height (gives apprx 34m^2 to cover). 18mm sheet to be used, 600mm vertical centres, two horizontal runs to reinforce of 2x1. If I'm going this far then I'll probably look...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

I'll have a look at pricing it up, thanks. Do people tend to just use PAR softwood pine for creating workshop storage? Any form of hardwood over here seems damn expensive! I'm really keen to get better usage of the space I have - going to take your advice and measure things up later to start...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

Thanks, I was expecting a similar comment, currently collecting designs for wall mounted tool cabinets as a result. The other thing that has crossed my mind is boarding out all of the walls to allow easy fitment of anything wall-mounted. Given part of some of the walls are external (and only...

Suggestions on how to improve my workshop

Ok, so at the moment I don't have any projects on the go, so I've put a fair bit of time into sorting out my workshop instead, which is limited to a single garage at the moment. I know there are more than a few ingenious folk on here, not to mention the experience, so I thought I would post up...

    General purpose glue

Couple of small tubes of 1 part impact adhesive (as the big ones are inevitably dry when you come back to them), and Stixall for anything that requires any vaguely non-tiny area (keeps for ages with the little screw top, much better than a nail in the end of the nozzle). Job done!
