    Splitting thin stock

That'd be great if I had a bandsaw! Sounds like I am best off buying thin stock in the first place.

1/2" sub £200 best router reccomendations please!

For table mounting, Triton have by far the best features in that price bracket. If you're looking at more freehand use though, I know the Hitachi HV12 gets a lot of praise, but I've not used one myself.

A business idea - Your thoughts

When a steel engineering square can be had for relatively little money as a reference point, I guess I'd struggle to see the benefit in getting someone else to provide a combination square that has been checked against something I can do myself.

mixing wood types but lathed together

Speaking from theory rather than experience, but I would use wood glue rather than epoxy - likely to give a stronger join without having a layer of hard material between the two wood slices.

    Splitting thin stock

I've got lots of 1" thick hardwood stock. A few narrow pieces have a little curvature on them, but generally they're all in good shape. Problem is, 1" thick is a big heavy for tinkering. In terms of making it into something more useful, would it work to rip them on edge with my table saw, then...

Rutlands Dakota Dovetail Jig any good?

Their dovetail jig is on offer for £50 - any good? http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+dovetail-j ... kage+DKL35

Difference in drying/seasoning time for bowl blanks?

Sorry, I realise my first post could be very misleading! When I mean slices I don't mean spindle slices, I mean with grain running across the face. 6 months I can cope with, thanks! Guessing since they'll be wet it would be wise for me to treat for worm if I go down that route?

Difference in drying/seasoning time for bowl blanks?

I wasn't quite sure how to title this thread, so I'll explain a bit more. Having just got my hands on the somewhat rare bowl turning attachment for my Coronet Major, the headstock is now at 90degrees, and my entrance into the world of bowls over 24cm can commence! Given that bowl blanks of...

    Workshop Compulsions

Router thicknessing jig needs designing and building, and I'm going to make some small boxes after seeing the post in the other thread on 52 box ideas. I've got some 1" stock that's only 3" wide or so that I'll rip into 0.5" and make some dinky boxes, never done that before!

    Pelotons

Care to share a link? First time I've heard that one, highway code actually advises you to ride single file!

    Pelotons

No justification, they're just inconsiderant. Any cyclists that aren't in single file/overtaking as just being arrogant in my eyes.

    Workshop Compulsions

Thanks guys. I think a router thicknessing jig/sled might have to get onto the project list!

    Workshop Compulsions

I don't have any projects that need doing at the moment. The house is in good shape, I've just remodelled the workshop, and no friends are asking for favours. This is not good news! I really want to be in the workshop doing SOMETHING, but I have no idea what to go and make. It's like some sort...

    Maker's mark registration?

I suppose you could register it as a formal trademark. Depends if you're wanting to part with some cash or not.

    Holly Trees

As above, lovely stuff but you need to be able to process it very quickly. You could either get some £ for it, or at the very least any happy recipent should be able to give you the equivalent mass in firewood and still leave very happy!

    Rant

If your neighbour is accommodating (and it sounds like they are) you could politely ask for the permission in writing, and then if SGN are still stubborn, give them a deadline before writing to a broadsheet newspaper. I've used that threat a few times in the past and it hasn't failed once (all...

    I couldn't resist doing this ...

I quite like the Prodigy. Can't say they're what I'd put on when I'm trying to turn something in the workshop though...!

    Best 'value' laptop....

Don't know the company, but if they're legit then that looks pretty good...

    Not sure on this form

Just playing around with a small piece of oak burr earlier, but I'm not convinced on the form I've shaped up (it's currently upside down in the picture). Opinions/suggestions? http://imgur.com/FDjfEgh Cheers!
