What did you do in your workshop today ?

You say soundproofing - what are you proofing? Looks more like absorption material to stop echoing?

Oak Furniture Land - how's this for hype ?

Throwing my 2p into the ring... - They're recycling leftovers, that's brilliant, and if they can make a business out of it, good for them - In terms of design, I'm not sure that's fair criticism as it's totally visible to the purchaser - either people like the designs and they buy them, or they...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Started a little project to test a few skills. Need a little shelving unit to replace the "temporary" (15mm MDF, spraypainted, now been in place 2 years...) one that I built previously. Going to make it out of solid oak, with loose fit drawer boxes, and all joints will be dovetails (yup...

UK Availability of Wixey Planer Gauges?

I'm trying to source one of these at present (the WR510), and every UK stockist I can identify is out of stock. Are these becoming unavailable, or just coincidence? I'll drop the manufacturer an email if I can't suss out availability.

    Coffee table design ideas

I'm getting new sofas in a couple of months (yippee!), and thought that this might be a good time to also replace the battered old Ikea coffee table that sits in my lounge with something a bit nicer, as well as giving myself my first ever proper furniture project which should push and grow my...

    Thicknesser

I've picked up the Triton in the end as a new unit. Only used it briefly to set it up (perfectly parallel out of the box, just needed the scale adjusting), and taken a couple of "hog" cuts out of some ABW and then some fine finishing passes - seems like just the ticket - I got some ridging on...

    Expanding my finishing selection

Brill, thanks. I'll replace my cellulose with shellac when I've finished it then and get the best of both worlds :)

    Expanding my finishing selection

There are countless things I still have to learn on woodworking, but the one area where I'm probably really ignorant as to the extent of my lack of knowledge is finishing. To address that, I thought I'd look to expand my selection of finishes a bit so I start learning a bit... At the moment my...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Just finished two experiments which will be birthday presents for my mum. When my parents redid their kitchen, they had a few things made out of black walnut, and kept the offcuts. Since my mum has said she wanted a cheeseboard and matching breadboard, I spotted a present opportunity! Both are...

Hadn't occurred to me either, thanks!

    Thicknesser

Right, tempted to go for one of these two new, I know both brands, and if they're a nightmare then I have a warranty to fall back on :). Any experience of either machine? http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb70 ... _container http://www.screwfix.com/p/triton-tpt125 ... 230v/5554k Cheers!

    TITAN TTB579PLN 204MM Planner thicknesser

What thicknesser would you suggest for 250 please? All the ones I've heard of are around 400!

    TITAN TTB579PLN 204MM Planner thicknesser

I'm wondering about picking one of these up purely to use as a thicknesser - reason for that is space, so my question is whether I can remove the infeed and outfeed upper tables and still have the blades safely protected from fleshy accidents?

    What wood is this?

Also, if I recall the education I've been given on here correctly, if the holes are old burrows then the woodworm have left and you're ok. It's fresh sawdust you need to be wary of (not to be confused with sawdust trapped inside that then falls out when you cut it!)

    Email Problem

I'm going to guess that you're not just using Orange email, you're also using them as your ISP? In which case this is probably an authentication issue. I'll let you Google the steps involved as every Outlook version is different, but in Account Settings you want to tick the box that relates to...

    Email Problem

To be clear, it's the same laptop you're using at home without issue? Typically a failure to send would relate to your SMTP outgoing port settings or similar, but that's odd if it's the same machine.

    Thicknesser

Thanks custard :). You're right, we're pretty similar in that regard then (or were!) - swap your bandsaw for a RAS and table saw, and add an extractor, and that's exactly what I've got. Now I just need a secondhand thicknesser to appear :D

    Thicknesser

Thanks - I think if I went over £300 I'd just bite the bullet and get the Dewalt DW733 as it seems universally loved. What I'm hoping for though is to get a better offering secondhand, maybe a Delta or similar, although if a DW733 or that 2012NB comes up I'll definitely look for them! Thanks...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Nah, as you can see the front faces are really simple I plan on just replacing them when they wear :)
