    TV in the workshop?

Distraction. I have a radio for music, which I can rarely hear due to machinery.

Zero Clearance Insert for PK200 Table Saw?

For cross cutting ply it should make a difference. It's a nearly new Freud on there :)

Zero Clearance Insert for PK200 Table Saw?

You've just given me an idea...... A flat piece of ply, with a ZCI slot as per the blade-raising method. On the right hand side, this would have a false-fence, which "hooks" over the real fence. I'd therefore avoid having to modify the saw, but gain a ZCI at the loss of 6mm of blade cut (and...

Zero Clearance Insert for PK200 Table Saw?

I'm not sure how to go about this one... I've got a PK200 table saw, which is a lovely little thing but does suffer from a bit of breakout since there is no ZCI. The challenge I've got is the way it's built (link below from ollypj review site)... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4145/504 ...

    Dust/Air Vac question

There are endless setups you could experiement with, but I'd say what you have there is a solid option, and if it's doing what you want then stick with it.

    Radial Arm Saws

You'd plunge by lowering the arm, but I'd expect that in doing so you're going to introduce a degree of vibration that will mess up the plunge. I'm a big fan of RAS's, but I have to say that I'd just get some templates and a handheld router if you're wanting to do rosettes etc.

Struggling to find great quality birch ply

I have to say I never even went to look at my local TP when I found out that a 12mm sheet in BB grade would cost me £70+vat!!

Struggling to find great quality birch ply

I'm in Lancashire, and really struggle to find decent ply around me at the moment. I've recently picked up some 9mm and 12mm birch ply BB from CWBerry, the local major trade merchant, and I'd describe it as "good". When I look at some of the work that people do on here, the ply looks immaculate...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

A small band saw and a small router table sound pretty good for what you're after to be honest, have you considered those?

You must be handy in that to create things that casually!

    Multiple machines just for convenience...

I only have a single garage, so I'm definitely sacrificing precious space for the luxury. The TS I've got is an Elektra Beckum PK200. Lovely machine, but changing blade is 4 screws to remove a section of the table, a spanner to remove the blade cover, then I can get at the blade, and...

Quarter sawn vs. Well prepped flat sawn

As always guys, a fantastic amount of information and effort in responses, thank you :)

Good plan thanks. Love the drawing too, what did you use?

Quarter sawn vs. Well prepped flat sawn

My endless reading of workshop information continues, and something I've been looking into lately is flat vs quartersawn timber. QS carries a higher price tag, is more stable, and often more attractive. Other than the last point though, when would you bother picking QS over well dried and...

    Multiple machines just for convenience...

I really like my RAS, always have. I'm also growing to like my table saw more and more, and no longer take the view of it being a poor relation. I could never see myself just having one saw though because of the time taken to change blades. My RAS has a 60T 250mm blade on it, and the table saw a...

    Open-sided shelves?

I'm partway through knocking together some shelves from T&G oak flooring offcuts. I have the shelves made up, 32cmx44cm from 3 boards each. As the shelves will be open-sided, I want to cover up the ugly exposed T&G joins at the sides. The most obvious approach would be to fit an edging piece...

Newby question: re-truing a piece of work

Have you got a wooden jaw chuck? If so I'd mount up the box reversed and take very light cuts to true up the tenon.

    Router bit for planing/surfacing

Well I had a play with the new cutter today - it's fantastic! Merrily chomped through over a mm of oak at a time giving an excellent finish. I really do need to sort out an extraction solution for using a sled though, really does produce a few shavings!
