    Dado with router

My MV12 is the worst tool I've ever owned for getting it back in the carry box. Thankfully it's a good router!

    Using a bench grinder

Not impossible, I've just done it! Thought it appears the 12degree blade refers to the bed not the blade angle! Laughs at my expense. Good practice on the grinder though!

    Using a bench grinder

Grabbed myself a basic bench grinder today to regrind some plane irons from 30degrees to 12.two questions... If I get a discolouration at the edge have I overheated and ruined the temper on that area, or is a level of colouring ok? How long should an activity like this take? It took me over...

    square help needed

As above, a router table makes a perfectly good DIY planer. Use your bandsaw first to get your rough shape sorted. You need: router table tall straight bit (minimum of a mm or two taller than your work piece) a split fence a shim for the outfeed (I'd suggest 0.2mm) if your fence doesn't have...

    The kitchen is finished!

As a suggestion to further lighten the kitchen, how about some uplighters above the cabinets?

Hard to find reviews on table saws, help me choose

Go second hand on that budget. For £250 I picked up an EB PK200 with all accessories when I set up, great little piece of kit. If you stretch your budget a little you'll be into TS200 territory which might be best.

    Saw bench - Done!

I honestly despair with how glibly people these days will consume raw materials, destroying our planet without being willing to make any sacrifices themselves.

    Poolewood 28-40 Capacitor help

Perfectly possible that voltage is stepped down internally to 110v. Have you checked the service plate and looked for a manual to check what the diagram says should be there?

    Latest Box

I've got to say the box itself isn't my style, but I love the 3D flower. Presumably it's "just" two perpendicular axis cuts with the scroll saw and then sanding? for each individual leaf? Really really like it :)

That post has made me a bit sad :(

    The kitchen is finished!

Shame maple isn't more easily/cheaply available in the UK, it's such a lovely wood. Nice job, you must be chuffed.

What "smart move" did you make in your workshop today ?

Fitted all 6 drawer fronts to my in-progress router cabinet (no separating structure, flush fit drawers. Cabinet back already attached). Then realised I hadn't fitted the pulls yet and they were all snug fits...

    fein

I've got the Bosch (GOP250?) and find it great. As per the above, the Saxton blades are not premium, but for me they strike a great balance between "good" and "cheap" which is perfect for a tool that typical I'm using for DIY rather than any form of fine woodwork.

Are Stanley block planes still good?

Stanley 60 1/2. Looks to be in good nick, bit of pint scuffing but what do you expect!

Are Stanley block planes still good?

Well I've grabbed one for around 40 quid delivered off ebay. I realise car boots may be cheaper, but I can't easily get to any good ones near me. Quite pleased, just need it to arrive now!

need some help routing edges on router table

If its straight grain on the top then be aware that it may well blunt your knives quickly.

Are Stanley block planes still good?

Thanks all. I'm watching as many 60 1/2 items on eBay as I can find so I'll see what the next few days yields! Between the advice on here and the Sam Allen book I picked up, I'm really enjoying learning more about planes. I'm currently building a Norm-style router cabinet, and using parts of it...

    Electrics/ lighting advice please?

Check the ratings stamped on them. From the photos you've posted they look like fluorescent tubes so should be low power consumption and zero concern from a load perspective.

Are Stanley block planes still good?

So, I'm going to add a low angle block plane to my workshop. The price that the old planes seem to go for on eBay are actually the same price often as a new Stanley offering. Is there any reason to buy one of the older planes over a new cast iron offering?

Anyone got any tips for cleaning shop vac filters?

Washable ones are the way to go. When it's had enough I just blast it down with a hose or shower head and leave it on a radiator/windowsill overnight. Job done!
