Insulating Garage - DPM or VCL for underside of joists?

I definitely want a ceiling in there. VCL is the membrane that will allow vapour out but not allow water ingress. As far as I'm aware it's a standard term?

Insulating Garage - DPM or VCL for underside of joists?

Thanks Mike. I'll probably grab some thinner plastic as I agree it's probably going to be a pain. I definitely need DPM up there and not just VCL? I debated that but reading around I decided I should be ok - it's treated timber and the VCL should further add to the robustness. 18mm is purely...

Insulating Garage - DPM or VCL for underside of joists?

Yea I've got 1000gauge which is going to be a real pain! The plasterboard isn't foil backed unfortunately. Walls are. Inside ---- Outside 18mm OSB, DPM, 50mm studs with 50mm foil backed PIR between, VCL, single brick.

Insulating Garage - DPM or VCL for underside of joists?

The floor is in, the material is here for the walls, and I'm now wondering if I'm about to make life harder for myself with the ceiling than necessary... Floor - concrete base (with DPM), 50mm studs with 50mm PIR, DPM over the top, 22mm chipboard. Walls - Single brick, VCL, 50mm studs with...

Show me your double garage workshops!

Great thanks for all that! I think getting my tablesaw near a wall will be key, just trying to figure out the best way without limiting myself in its use. I love castors too but don't have the fold up ones, can see those being an excellent option.

Show me your double garage workshops!

Thanks for the lengthy reply! I don't suppose you have any pictures do you? I'm thinking in the same way as you just not sure how to balance some of the pros and cons.

    Which Wadkin/Startrite?

Right, the new workshop is starting to take shape enough that it's time to begin doing my research and watching ebay etc. I'm after a table saw with the following criteria... Sliding table - this either needs to allow 1200mm in front of the blade to halve sheets, or have a removal fence)...

Show me your double garage workshops!

Shamelessly researching ideas to steal from the entire at the moment. My double garage workshop is well underway, a single skin double that I'm decking out with insulation etc throughout, and I'm keen to see what layouts people have found optimal for typical kit - table saw, ras, router table...

Studding out garage wall - fixings

Why the membrane on the outside and not DPM?

Studding out garage wall - fixings

Thanks just had a look at that. Not sure it will do what I want though as I'm going to be hanging all sorts off the walls so I need the strength aspect before it gets 18mm OSB3 and then all my tool racks mounted on that etc.

Studding out garage wall - fixings

I'm just DPM'ing both sides to keep it compact and avoid any moisture wick.

Studding out garage wall - fixings

I'm about to start studding out a garage wall as the beginnings of a conversion to a fully tanked and insulated workshop. It's a single skin brick affair at the moment. I'm wondering whether I actually need to bother fixing the studwork to the walls, or whether I'd be find just anchoring it to...

    Abrasive for lapping...

Thanks for all the replies guys, really useful. Going to try a longer setup with something on the blade for grip. The comment about getting diamond players from aliexpress/ebay - is that not a false economy? I had some faithful ones once and they were knackered in short order with the diamonds...
