    Books for identifying planes

    I've not done much lately as I'm building the new workshop, but I've really enjoyed restoring some Stanley planes (and the odd record one). Are there any particularly well thought of book or sites for identifying the planes? I know I know, verging on obsessive collector territory :D

    Sketch up. Or if you are not technologically inclined, sketch it by hand to scale.

    Personally I wear a visor and mask at all times turning and just generate the mess. If I ever see a truly effective extraction method for a lathe I might investigate it, but I've not seen one yet.

    Duck oil on the lathe once in a blue moon for mine, and as mentioned ensure the oiler is topped up.

    Makita is probably your best bet. I've got a Rage that I use as my portable saw and it's absolutely fine but a step below the Makita.

    If you've not done much turning then be careful to take light cuts - like any thread, a screw chuck will strip if there is too much torque applied.

    Hitting a screw with a mitre saw blade

    P. S. If you're cutting suspect wood it's well worth having a blade designed to cope with metal/rough cutting.
