    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

Thanks for the input Chas. Only trouble is that I use a Tormek and not a traditional grinder, so sharpening won't heat up the metal enough to bond bits of the grinding wheel to make a burr. Don't get me wrong, I do get a burr with the Tormek but I don't think the burr is as effective as from a...

    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

Does anyone own or have experience using the Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners? It looks like it would be a very handy little thing to have. I've seen CHJ's thread on his home made version (very impressive by the way), but as my expertise does not extend to metalwork I was thinking about...

Best scrapers to own for bowl turning?

How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking?

Best scrapers to own for bowl turning?

Apologies, I read that as the handle being 21" long, which would surely be dangerous... blonde moment!!

Best scrapers to own for bowl turning?

Wow, 21"... anyone standing behind you would need to wear protective gear with that thing swinging about! :P Where did you pick it up?

Best scrapers to own for bowl turning?

Thanks all for the advice. So i think i'll be looking at getting both a heavy duty inboard and outboard scraper. What brand would people suggest for the best value heavy duty scraper (maybe 1") with a sufficiently long handle? I think a trip to Timberman will be in order (to the dismay of the OH)

Best scrapers to own for bowl turning?

I'm relatively new to wood turning and bought myself an old Record DML 24 lathe on eBay which also came with a selection of random tools. So far I've turned myself a few bowls, but from the tools I have (I was pleased to actually find a few Robert Sorby tools!) I don't have any scrapers. I've...

Improvised swivel base for Tormek wetstone sharpener system

After using it for a bit it works great, it was well worth making! A sharpening station with drawers for the jig kits is now on the future project list!

Improvised swivel base for Tormek wetstone sharpener system

Having bought a Tormek T7 recently i see how useful and convenient a swivel base would come in handy, but seeing as im skint after buying the Tormek and some jigs i cannot justify spening £40-£50 on the Tormek RB-180 swivel base... so i made one for less than a tenner! All i bought was a square...

What tool did you buy today?

Received delivery of my Tormek T7 sharpening system with a load of sharpening jigs this afternoon... Every single chisel, plane, kife, scissor and axe in the house will be razor sharp by the end of the weekend :) Also thought it was a nice touch that they include a little pouch of plasters with...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

As I'm lacking useable wall space I threw together this mobile clamp rack from spare structural timber I had lying around. Going to come in really handy! Will also make a permanent container on the bottom for things like glue.

What Axminster Toold discount did you get?

I was pretty lucky in terms of timing. I had been waiting (and saving) for a very long time until I moved to a house with a double garage so I could finally set up a decent workshop, so I had a long list of things I was going to buy/order at the same time from Axminster. As I was keeping an eye...

Timber / hardwood supplier in South West Wales?

Thanks shed9. That may be worth a spin one Saturday, even if it's not for these coming projects... At least I could see what I'm buying.

Timber / hardwood supplier in South West Wales?

I will definitely be getting in touch with these guys, that seems a pretty good price! Hopefully delivery to me won't be too much of a problem. Only thing with buying "blind" though is not being able to physically see what you're buying. What's your experience, newbie_niel, been like buying from...

Timber / hardwood supplier in South West Wales?

I've only recently (finally) had the opportunity to kit myself out with a decent workshop. So obviously I'm excited to get stuck in to some bigger projects, but am struggling to find some reasonably priced local suppliers or hardwood. I'm based near Cross Hands in Carmarthenshire and was...

Dust Collector Remote Switch for 16A Extractor

Thanks both bright spark and monkey mark for the diagrams!! Would you mind making a more pictorial version please? I wouldn't really know what I was looking at when opening up components etc. I may need to bribe a couple of more electrically minded mates to give me a hand. Really appreciate...

Dust Collector Remote Switch for 16A Extractor

That sounds like an excellent solution, and a plausible one for me to be able to do myself... given some direction! As HOJ suggested, would someone be so kind as to post a schematic that a layman like me could follow and understand? Much appreciated!!

Dust Collector Remote Switch for 16A Extractor

Thanks for the input guys... unfortunatly its all a little over my head/confidence level with electrics. Basic wiring i'm happy with, but tampering with components would make me a little twitchy.

Dust Collector Remote Switch for 16A Extractor

Thanks for the reply HOJ... so from what you said am i right in saying that because of the way my extractor switch works i wont be able to get a remote control device/switch? Which is something i feared might be the case :? So is my only option to hard wire a switch at each of my machines?
