Thanks both, that's what I might end up resorting to if I get no luck finding this DML/C cam lock tool rest upgrade

New adjustable banjo for my Record Power DML24 Lathe??

Thanks Selectortone. As I said just now after the trouble I had with the original bristol locking lever I'd rather not go back down that rout if i can help it. I have actually contacted Record directly and all they were able to say that it is now unavailable due to being discontinued!

New adjustable banjo for my Record Power DML24 Lathe??

Thanks Dick M. To be honest I already had one on it originally which the previous owners had put on it, but the thread had gone on it and it wouldn't tighten properly, so after the hassle I had with that I'd rather stick to a spanner than getting another one. After I saw the DML/C Cam Lock Tool...

Thanks anyway Jon. There are a few websites which still show the advert but says out of stock or discontinued :(

New adjustable banjo for my Record Power DML24 Lathe??

Please help... I have an old Record Power DML 24 lathe (which I've found to be a great beginner lathe) and at present my banjo can only be tightened/loosened using a spanner which is a right pain in the donkey to say the least!! I've had a look around and found that the DML/C Cam Lock Tool...

    Random Orbital Sander

The dewalt is a similar looking design to the Metabo, but i have no idea if its the same gubbins internally? Cant comment on the metabo, but the dewalt's been great!

    Random Orbital Sander

I can highly recommend my DEWALT D26410 random orbital sander, its been great, cant fault it! Its not the cheapest, but as Cordy said just look/wait for a good deal. Its not exactly cheap in DM though!?

    Making your own tools

Thanks Jim. They were cheap enough for a punt so I have now ordered a couple of blanks from ebay, so I now have the long wait for delivery from china.

    Making your own tools

It's not that I automatically assumed that the quality/grade was crap, it's just that it seems to be very cheap for what I've seen, and usually you get what you pay for. However I want to do this to save myself money as well as for the satisfaction of making it myself. Thanks woodpig, that's...

    Making your own tools

Thank you selectortone. Your tools look great by the way! Would you mind pointing me in the direction of those UK suppliers of HSS on ebay please? And i take note of the H&S concerns that everyone's shown, i dont intend on making/using anything dodgy or dangerous. Shear scrapers/finishing...

    Making your own tools

Thanks Chas, that puts things into perspective for me. I like my hands and want to be doing this for decades to come, I'm not even 30 yet (2 months to go but I'm still clinging on to my twenties)! That looks like it could have been very nasty. It was just an experiment though really, maybe it...

    Making your own tools

Thanks for all of the great advice guys. I needed a wider straight edge shear scraper so I've made my first prototype using an old chisel which I've re-ground and turned a Sorby style handle, which I'm pleased with. So I'll be giving Ashley Iles a call for some HSS blanks rather than risking...

    Making your own tools

Hi Cornucpia, is the following link what you mean? http://www.ashleyilestoolstore.co.uk/ac ... us/special If so, have you bought one before? How does it work for the width? There's not much of a description. Thanks!

    Making your own tools

I fancy making myself a couple of heavy duty bowl scrapers and was just wondering if anyone here has done it themselves. If so, did you use HSS steel to make it? I cant find many places that sell suitable HSS steel blanks, but i have found this on the bay...

Best value/performance 2" sanding discs for bowl sanding

I totally agree with you. I didn't mean to sound snobby in my reply, I'm still only learning so I try to achieve as good a finish as I can more for the practice than anything, but from experience it doesn't always 'turn' out how you want it (excuse the terrible pun!)

Best value/performance 2" sanding discs for bowl sanding

I'd prefer to 'tool' a better finish than to need 80 grit, but duly noted, thanks Chas :D

Thank you all for the advice & info, much appreciated!! :D

Best value/performance 2" sanding discs for bowl sanding

I use a velcro 2" sanding pad in a hand drill for sanding/finishing bowls. Abrasives soon mount up if you're buying them in packs of 10 at each grit, so I was just wondering what everyone's go-to sanding disk/pad supplier was for 2" sanding discs? If it works out cheaper, which it presumably...

Wealden Tool Company Router Bits - any good?

Sorry for resurrecting an old post, but has anyone's opinion of Wealden's router cutters changed at all, or are they still very much recommended by all?

    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

Thanks for the replies. Well having heard the general consensus I've decided to take all your advice and not buy it. I will however get a standard burnisher (a lot cheaper too) for odd jobs and maybe try using it in a simple jig for curved scrapers if I feel the need to. I appreciate the input...
