    Timber auctions?

Thanks Naz, just received it now. The misses wouldn't let me bring the horse and cart so ended up bringing the next best thing. She wasn't too pleased to be sat behind me for the journey home either

    Timber auctions?

I recently went to the HJ Pugh auction for the first time, and it will not be my last time!! I kinda went home with more than anticipated... A hairy drive home to West Wales to say the least! I'll definitely be taking something bigger than my car next time! Anyway, I was just wondering if...

Help identifying an old rebate plane

Thanks Andy! It's pretty much what I thought, but thought I'd ask on the off chance that someone recognises it. It's not got many imperfections and once cleaned up and sharpened will be handy to have anyways.

Help identifying an old rebate plane

I'm interested as it came as part of a lot which also included a nice record no. 4 1/2 and 5 planes and a nice stanley bailey no. 4, so just wondered if its just an old cheap-o rebate plane (which i suspect) or is it anything more valuable?

    Does anyone recognise this lathe??

I think it might have been a copy lathe, and probably out of my price range!! Its at the HJ Pugh, Ledbury timber and tools auction. But cant find much about it online anywhere! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Does anyone recognise this lathe??

I'm going to an auction and have only seen this photo of it. I'll be having a look at it in the flesh later today anyway. It looks an interesting bit of kit, so was wondering whether it could be worth a punt (if it goes for the right kind of money)

    Does anyone recognise this lathe??

As the title suggests, could anyone help me by telling me what brand and model of lathe this is? I'm trying to find out its approximate value. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Should I hide heating pipes within solid oak skirting boards

Thanks all for the input. As I said in my original post, I'd rather not go messing with the plumbing if i can help it, whatever the method might be. Thanks Numb. The misses told me a flat out no to the boxing out as she doesn't want me to "make her a dust shelf". In terms of doing a rebate...

Should I hide heating pipes within solid oak skirting boards

Thanks ComfortablyNumb! The oak that I have is kiln dried. What do you mean exactly by a two sided box? Do you think I'd have issues if I router a decent sized rebate as a space for the pipes?

Should I hide heating pipes within solid oak skirting boards

Thanks for the replies! I did think about doing that, but it would look a bit odd as the radiator pipes are like that throughout the house so I'd have to do the same throughout the house when I get around to it... Plus the misses said no straight off as it would collect dust like that. That's...

Should I hide heating pipes within solid oak skirting boards

I'm slowly but surely doing up my house (when the misses can drag me out of the workshop that is), and I'll be making my own solid oak skirting boards for the living room. I've removed the old 4" skirting and I've laid the new solid oak floor, but my quandary is that I currently have heating...

    Long beam options.

No worries, happy to help :) I would however get confirmation that building control is not required, as if you were to sell it can work out complicated and more costly if getting B.C. on board post-construction.

    Long beam options.

Also just to note, the above is based on not having top hung bi-fold doors!?

    Long beam options.

Hi Dee, Just done a quick calculation and having overestimated the loading you can get away with a 100x225mm C24 Glulam Beam (based on 5 No. 45mm laminates). However, you will need properly prepared calcs to satisfy building control. Hope this helps

    Long beam options.

Hi Dee, Eric is right, a Glulam beam will be your best bet. I'm actually a structural engineer, so i could give you an idea of the size of the glulam beam if you could tell me: - How long the flat roof rafters are which will be supported by the beam; - Roughly what section size the rafters are...

How have you drilled your bench dogs?

That may be the most straight forward way of getting it done (so long as the bit is long enough). Thanks Phil! In terms of the counter boring of the underside, are you thinking in terms of the use of holdfasts to get a decent angle when hammering them in? Due to the thickness of my bench top I...

How have you drilled your bench dogs?

Im in the middle of making myself a roubo-ish style workbench and just thinking ahead to when i'm ready to drill the 3/4" holes for the bench dogs. I've nearly finished laminating 4 sections of the top (so they fit in my P/T), but the finished bench top will be around 5" thick, so i want to make...
