    Heating the workshop

I will be watching this topic with interest... however I'm looking for frost protection more that heating. I've been thinking about the tubular heaters as they are also low power consumption, like... http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/domes ... /index.htm Its more to prevent any finishes/glues...

    High-friction rubber for workbench feet?

Well the bench is made from construction lumber, but the top on its own is around 140mm thick, 600mm wide and 2200mm long, so it weighs a fair chunk (probably not far from 100kg)! But with the painted concrete floor I would want to minimise movement as much as possible just as a precaution...

An exchange of christmas gift ideas...What to make?

Looks to be relatively straightforward A Matt! Maybe try using an adjustable hole cutter for the hobs etc. Anyways, started making some prototypes now. A yew bottle opener (no finish on the prototype) and some yew coasters Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    High-friction rubber for workbench feet?

Yes, the floor is concrete which has been painted with floor paint. Following one of SteveF's links I've seen these... http://www.underbrand.co.uk/p/Bike-Pump ... 18-pcs.php But as you said, moving the bench around myself may damage the rubber pads... but old car tyres - that's a good shout...

    High-friction rubber for workbench feet?

I don't think I'll be fixing the bench to the floor, I'd prefer the flexibility of moving it if needs be, particularly as it'll be in front of the garage doors

    High-friction rubber for workbench feet?

I'm in the process of chipping away at making my workbench and was thinking about reducing any potential movement of the bench during use by getting some sort of high-friction rubber for the feet of the legs. Dont get me wrong, the bench is going to weigh a fair bit on its own, but I just wanted...

An exchange of christmas gift ideas...What to make?

Thanks Bob! The box was for my dad, so gave it to him with no hole and asked what birds he wanted to attract. He likes his tits, so gave it a 25mm hole. Do you have any suggestions for nice gifts to make?

An exchange of christmas gift ideas...What to make?

An exchange of christmas gift ideas...What to make?

Thanks Mike, a jigsaw would be fun to do, but as I dont have a scroll saw I dont think I would trust myself to do a tidy job using a coping saw!

An exchange of christmas gift ideas...What to make?

With a few projects on the go at the moment and not much spare time I thought I'd get the thinking cap on now for what to make for nice Christmas gifts for the family etc. I've already made and given a few gifts for various people already like: an oak bird box, Some little picture frames...

Holdfasts - are the Rutland ones any good?

Hi hammer n nails, where did you buy those from as a bulk buy? How long ago was that? Just wondering whether that could be a prospect to initiate another bulk buy!? :o

Holdfasts - are the Rutland ones any good?

A while back i bought their set of 66 router bits (with 15% off so was only £135), they may not be the best quality bits on the market, but at £2 each bit you cannot go wrong!! And i've used quite a few of them too. I also have 2 of their wet 'n' dry vac's which are connected to dedicated...

Holdfasts - are the Rutland ones any good?

Thanks all for the replies. Based on the general consensus I think I'll pass on the Rutlands and wait until I'm ready and spend a little more on the holdfasts by Gramercy as they seem reasonably priced compared to some. Plus it would be useful to have the flexibility of using all of my 19mm dog...

Holdfasts - are the Rutland ones any good?

I got an email from Rutlands to say that there's 15% off everything this weekend with free delivery, so as I'm in the process of making my workbench I will be wanting to get some holdfasts and I saw these on the Rutlands website: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworkin ... kota+dkbbh I'm...

Bracket capacity & Ironmongery Direct Customer Service

Also FYI as a guide, say Maple has a max density of around 750kg/m3 then that means that (based on your sizes) 0.06 x 0.20 x 3.0m = 0.036m3... which means each plank weighs around 27kg. So if you space your brackets at 1m centres then each plank weighs 9kg per metre... so for example my 350mm...
