Bargain Alert - Ikea £1 Aluminium Extrusions - DIY MFT Style Clamping

I was tempted to buy 3 lengths for £3 but not at £40 delivery :dunno:

You've got £600 for a new mitre saw...

Personally, if I had the budget I'd buy a Kapex if only for the dust extraction and shadow line. Up to watching the Hooked On Wood video the Makita was at the top of my list and then I saw the Triton....

You've got £600 for a new mitre saw...

From what I've watched on YouTube and read, one of the big considerations is shadow line vs laser. Reviews point to shadow line as a must have add-on for a Kapex; I've never used it but you might want to see if it would be of use to you and if it can be added to the Makita.

    More price increases

Makes me wonder how much timber and OSB is on the Evergreen. I've just checked prices of 4.8m lengths of 100mm x 47mm treated (studwork) against my budget and it's gone from £11.35 to £24.91 but 11mm OSB is only £2 a sheet dearer, unless for some reason I budgeted for 18mm

    Joke thread

So I arrived at the restaurant a bit early for a family meal. "Would you mind waiting for a while?" asked the manager. "Not at all," I replied. "Good," he said. "Take these 2 Coq au Vins over to the couple by the window, then start clearing tables 4 and 7".

50 window frames to sand .. in situ.

Wow that's some task you've taken on. I would try using one of these in a drill or 4" angle grinder to take off as much as possible without damaging the wood but just in case first try it on a bit you don't mind damaging a little. You can then use a Festool for the bits you can't reach. Spindle...

How to clean up old wood.

You could try power washing it. Start from a couple of feet away and move in as you go to remove stubborn stuff. If you can I would start with a piece that you wouldn't mind ruining. During the last house renovation I did I had to clean off loads of reclaimed oak and used a belt sander with...

    New bandsaw...decision made

He says to ensure the bottom of the teeth should sit on the peak of the wheel which is the centre. That way the teeth will be proud of the front half of the wheel. If it's marking your wheel it may be because it is too far back. I followed this setup method and it has transformed by bandsaw but...

    Who else thinks this?

Yes there needs to be a new normal. The 'normal' is simply what we have had drummed into us. All through millennia people have been persecuted for being outside of what cultures have established as acceptable, mostly derived from religious diktat. I grew up in the 60s/70s in a society that was...

    New bandsaw...decision made

It does sound like you may have a misalignment problem between the top and bottom wheels. I just hope the frame hasn't been bent by over-tensioning. As for the bearings I suggest checking with the parts diagram or online parts. You need to look for a BS300 Thrust Bearing.

    Workbench Vice advice

I have a quick release Record 52 1/2 which is excellent with beech liners, but would prefer a bigger one so a 53e is on my shopping list. After that I would like a removeable moxon vice. I'm afraid this subject falls under 'ask 10 woodworkers which vice they prefer and you get 10 different...

Wanted Dewalt Li-ion Battery (good or bad)

I want to connect my Dewalt Site Radio to run from the mains. I have an 18v adapter so need an old 18v Li-ion battery (working or not) that I can open up, remove the cells and wire up to an 18V socket.

Series 2, land rover, soft top

A professionally restored Series is a joy but don't expect too much from it and use it for local trips and country shows (oh and pulling cars out of snow drifts). I have a lovely TD5 Defender which was a 60th birthday present and I absolutely love it (see my avatar). Mechanically it is rock...

Track saw for cutting shoulders on tenons.

You could try this technique (also alluded to above) but using a circular or track saw with depth stop. I've done this using a roofing square as a fence, but Paul demonstrates how to do it using a tenon saw and chisel. The Paul Sellers’ Mortise & Tenon Method | Paul Sellers - YouTube
