I don't have much luck with jigsaws!

I have a Makita 240v Jigsaw that has performed extremely well over the years so I looked up Makita Jigsaw on eBay and this popped up - it seems to have excellent reviews Makita M4301 MT Series Jigsaw 240V 88381815765 | eBay

    Meddings or Union Drill Press?

Well I bought it!! It is excellent, the rattle on the video he sent turned out to be a loose fitting lid. I did all the above recommended checks. and drilled into dry oak and softwood using a brad point bit and also used a large forstner bit and it cut really cleanly with no drill rattling in...

curious things in a Cornish lane

Great tip - we have ground elder so I'll give it a go. When I was a lad I worked on a farm and the hedge along the silage pit was killed by the dark brown runoff.

curious things in a Cornish lane

If there's damp it could be north facing which means the fig isn't getting enough sun? In England figs do produce a lot of figlets that either drop off or survive over winter to ripen the following summer. Interesting about the turkeys robbing fruit as the most popular variety in the UK is Brown...

Built a coat rack and struggling with finish...

Here's my next project - a bench for a new path we've built for walkers. It will be made from hardwood pallet tops

Built a coat rack and struggling with finish...

I think they are made out of whatever is local and cheap. I've made compost bins out of oak pallets and also used softwood ones as tinder. You can, as I did, find hardwood ones in a pallet supplier's yard and people also put slate/tile pallet wood containers on Facebook which are nearly always...

Built a coat rack and struggling with finish...

In my experience staining softwood (especially pallet wood) often doesn't look that good so yes I would try a varnish and/or paint on a test piece. If you can get hold of a hardwood pallet then the stain or varnish finish would be much better. Check facebook for hardwood pallets or the box type...

Built a coat rack and struggling with finish...

I'd tend to go for Ronseal Diamond Interior Clear Satin, otherwise I'd paint it using a heritage type colour in matt or a Rustins spray can from Homebase.

    Small Modern Shed Build

Not too shabby at all, I remember my first brick laying attempt making a bbq in the 90's, it was an unmitigated disaster so you should be proud.

    Shop Made Disc Sander

Some time ago I decided to make my own disc sander using an old motor I've had for years, it was a rainy day project inspired by various designs on YouTube. I cut the sanding disc from 18mm birch ply using a router with a simple circle cutting jig My first challenge was solving how to...

    Hello everyone

Welcome Iain Well brace yourself in preparation for the greenhouse, just from a bloke who has just built one. It has been my major project all this year and, depending on the size and your aspirations regarding design, it can be a long, long project. Mine is a 4.5m x 2.5m lean to with a stone...

    Mortar Joint Repointing

I use one of these now in order to get a concave finish which I brush out when almost dry as this suits a lime mortar finish. The old way was to finish by dabbing a bristle brush hard into the pointing to drive in the larger grit in the sharp sand...

    Mortar Joint Repointing

I'd also add that gauging your mix is important if you want to avoid differences in shade, especially true with NHL 3.5 etc.
