    Scratter Vs wood chipper

16% ? blimey, two half litre bottles at 7% was enough. I gave my friend a couple of bottles as she likes cider but she had to water it down.

    Scratter Vs wood chipper

In 2019 I built my own scratter using a length of turned oak impregnated with stainless steel screws and oak floorboard offcuts, powered by my old B&D hand drill. It works well but it takes a lot of time to mill enough apples to extract 25 litres of juice. I would prefer something that I could...

Rusty's workshop: from empty room to dream workshop (will be pic heavy)

Just about to harvest and start mine. I built my own scratter and press which work really well albeit small scale

    Paint stripper

I need to strip what looks like black paint (hoping it's not powder coating) off an old mitre gauge as it is badly chipped and I want to use in my bench sander. I don't want to use the hot air gun in case it damages the gauge but equally don't want to spend up to £15 on a tin of paint remover...

    Dementia and me.

My Dad died of vascular dementia at 80 after a lifetime smoking rollups. My Mum is now 91 and in the later stages of Alzheimer's and very frail but cared for at home. She's ok though just in a world of her own, mostly sleeping and still eating ok. It is a terrible disease but mostly affects...

Rusty's workshop: from empty room to dream workshop (will be pic heavy)

If I need a sit down with a brew I just use a stool. +1 for the dust extraction. There are loads of space saving examples to be found such as Hooked On Wood on YouTube and Pinterest. Look for sander tables that use a swivel to switch between bobbin and belt/circular sanders (also see what @DBT85...

    Stud Wall

Is the stonework nice or could be nice? I've kept the stone face as is and built the plasterboard proud of the stonework with a curved edge and simply feathered it into the stonework. It looks really good if done correctly. If you are convinced the stonework needs plastering over then obviously...

More expensive is a nutlink as they can be adjusted to fit, otherwise a car parts store like Halfords?

If you don't have a bench grinder buy a good 2nd hand CI or it will be the death of you..

    Hand plane blade problem

It could be a duff cutting iron or you are possibly applying too much pressure to one side. I use dry 120 grit sandpaper on a flat surface such as a granite tile or float glass, and draw the cutting iron towards me. Having said this I've had this problem with a CI that came with a 2nd hand No. 4...

    Enough tools/Lack of tools?

Absolutely agree Roy, I routed out all the rebates for our new 5m x 2.5m greenhouse and made 2 x box jointed roof window upstands on my home-built table with a Triton TRA001 underneath.

Various planes and other wood working tools

I've just bought an excellent Stanley 71 Router Plane for £45 from this chap. It came complete with original box and instructions and doesn't look as if it has ever been used. He has a selection of other planes and tools for sale (proceeds are for charity) including a lovely Stanley No. 6 for...

Good reason to leave your table saw guard on

Many years ago I was using an elektra bechum site saw and had kick back that threw the piece backwards like a dart. Luckily I was angled slightly to the left and it missed me but it didn't half put the wind up me.
