What is the diameter of the clamp hole(s)?

    Oak gazebo

If you keep to the 'thirds' rule applied to the mortices then you are almost creating a through mortice from each side which should be fine. You don't say if you intend to peg the joints?

    Chisels, new or old

I know what you mean by soft. My Kirchens got a bit of surface rust on them that I tried to buff off but it just dulled the shiny surface. At some stage I'll rebuff them with finer paste as I do like them, despite the semi bevel.

    Chisels, new or old

I have a set of superb bevel edged Narex Richters, a set of 'semi bevel edged' Kirchen Two Cherries and a set of Dewalt Stubbed Chisels for DIY work. I'd also say Iles 100%.

    workshop insulation

The problem isn't the quality of the insulation it's the condensation on the outer facing skin that you need to keep off the inner facing of your cladding. The airgap allows airflow to dry it off. I made a small mistake with the need for osb3 or vapour barrier if you use superquilt, installed as...

    Cosy Workshop

I keep finding the damn things in the log pile. I've been stung twice now by monumentally pee'd off wasps that've been snatched from sleep. It now takes me twice as long to fill the wheelbarrow as I carefully inspect each log 🐝

    workshop insulation

I've used superquilt to dryline each room in our cottage as we've restored them. In your case kingspan or rockwool in between the studs, allowing 25mm gap between the insulation and cladding, then superquilt stapled across your studs then counter batten then OSB3 to ensure a good vapour barrier...

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Correct, but only if the pan is smaller than the electric ring.

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

You still need the same amount of energy but induction heat up time is comparable to gas so the savings are the energy lost whist the electric element reaches the right temperature. Also if you take a pan off part way through cooking an induction hob instantly switches off whereas an electric...

    Canal lock gates open day.

I was brought up in Middlewich, Cheshire, a renowned canal hub. As kids we spent a lot of time fishing on 'the cut' during the sixties and enjoyed watching locks operating. Back then it was still mostly commercial traffic.

    Hornbeam

We had several hornbeams blown down in 2018 and I burned a load of it in our wood burner - lovely stuff. Have a search for hornbeam pen turning blanks such as here Hornbeam - Wood Pen Blank

    Spitfire Mk.VB

Outstanding work, from my childhood I still love spitfires and lucky enough to catch one or two flying over our village. You are truly gifted, and your sister is a very lucky woman.

    Acurate graduated set square

I've got two of these and they are excellent and, more importantly, squarer than a politician at an all-night rave

Rust protection for planes and saws etc

+1 for ACF50 rubbed onto machine tabletops with fine wire wool then a layer of Axminster Machine Wax buffed on. For tools I use an oil in a can (pipe hessian wrap rolled tight and squeezed into a Sainsbury's water chestnut can, with a single twist-on lid from a Nescafé jar) thoroughly...

Will smart meters be used for the rolling blackouts?

As I understand it Phil the problem isn't a lack of electricity generating capacity but a potential lack of gas for the gas driven generators. Years ago, despite producing gazillions of gas from the North Sea our government took the monumentally stupid decision to stop storing it. Instead, they...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I've never heard of honing (cutting a 30-degree bevel on a 25-degree ground blade) done on a lathe or bench grinder and certainly would never attempt it. You can successfully strop a blade on mdf held in a vice using a suitable cutting paste, I prefer a leather strop with Autosol. If you try and...
