Help me choose a belt sander

So after praising the 9404 I went to use it today. Powered it on - nothing. Took it into the shop and tried it again and it worked. Took it back to the job - nothing. Wiggled the mains wire and it worked so removed the power cover and found the cable clamp was so tight it had worked through the...

    Sanding discs and saw blades

Tried the a 120 grit today and it cleaned up some birch ply a treat, faster than ordinary discs and nice and smooth. However there was some damage to the outer edge so which interface pads are recommended? I've noted @TheTiddles recommendation to not use them if sharp edges are needed.

    Suggestions for future heating system

That's a canny idea Phil as our woodburner often throws out too much heat for our lounge, even on tick over, and it soon gets uncomfortably warm so I'm now thinking how I can extract some heat into adjoining cooler rooms.

Help with building a bench sander please

You could do as I did and post a request on the metalwork forum to see if a member can turn one for you. I simply measured the motor shaft and gave the size of the sander plate and one skilled chap made me this: This is the finished sander and I'm delighted with it:

Convert cheap battery drills to mains elec (UK)

I bought an excellent Dewalt DAB radio that runs on 18v Li-on batteries and is very useful when working outside but it does tie up a battery which lasts 2 days then needs a recharge so then I'm two batteries down. So I thought I would get hold of a duff 1.5AHr battery and convert it to mains for...

    Suggestions for future heating system

Yes I agree Phil but if I do replace it I will sell the old one. It all depends on the cost of a suitable GSHP. The only issue I have with the pellet boiler is uncertainty on future pellet cost. It cost us £225 pm in 2015 and now it's £300 pm so pretty extortionate albeit only in winter months...
