    A trip to a toolshop

I'm going to the Nuneaton store tomorrow, I've been given money for Christmas with instructions to spend it on a new veritas low angle smoother, which I just have to try first - it's the law. It would be rude to drive there without having a good look around, so I've blocked off the morning...

How to cut box slots for splines on a box without a table saw?

Yes you're right, I didn't look at it close enough!

Who do you follow on YouTube?

Yes I agree that a shop full of carefully positioned Dewalt/Makita/Festool etc. all of which look brand new is off putting and I often click away from these. Like most, I have stuck with one or two brands of cordless (in my case Dewalt and Ryobi with Dewalt adapter) just to save on batteries...

Let's discuss furniture design and fine work

But even Adirondack chairs vary in design, all tend to look similar but some are more comfortable than others - so 'form over function' comes to mind. However, I would offer that if you really like the look of a piece of, basically impractical, bordering on unusable, furniture that looks like a...

    Nicholson on Grinding and Sharpening

Now, just to extend this tangent a little I came across this on BBC Sounds which was a bit weird. I can understand it works for non-woodworkers but I found it actually too interesting to be relaxing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0d9crz3

    Oilstones advice

I have always used oilstones (and made two lidded boxes with stop ends for them) until I watched Mr Sellars make his 3 diamond stone board, so I made one using Vaunt stones. It is very useful and quick to use but there is just something about oilstones that I like. At college I re-ground a set...

    Gout 😥

I've never had gout but something very similar 'Hallux Rigidus' (arthritis in my big toe joint) that caused me really bad attacks of pain until I had first one then (ten years later) the other big toe joint fused. The one medication that worked to alleviate the pain was Naproxen + Omeprozole

    Slingshots

We had 8 maine coons at the peak as my wife breeds and shows them. The two oldest were allowed out but after we lost one my wife kept the youngest 6 in and I built a huge run for them. The two old 'uns have since died of old age. Here is her website if you're interested in seeing them...

    Erbauer 239 mitre saw

Bench dogs are normally 20mm metal dowels that are used on an MFT table. Do a search if you need more info. If you buy a toggle clamp you can make a 18mm dowel and ply plate to screw the clamp onto. The dowel then slots into the clamp hole on your saw and screwed tight with the thumb screw...

    Erbauer 239 mitre saw

Shame it's not 20mm as you could buy a toggle clamp with 20mm dog for simplicity. However I would buy two large toggle clamps and then either make a your own dog to fix to the clamp base using ply and dowel...
