What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

The most energy efficient dishwashers use far less energy than hand washing. We have a heat pump tumble drier which is very energy efficient albeit expensive to buy so I've now put up a new washing line at my wife's request, but towels are still tumble dried as a good exfoliation after a shower...

    Rant about screwfix

Whilst I really miss the Axminister catalogue I've tuned out of browsing Screwfix and Toolstation catalogues and rarely read them. I do read the special offers pamphlets they send out. Our local Screwfix has the new screen holders setup but it sounds like they're not user friendly. I just use my...

    Castor wheel

I've had mine for years and just left it beside the log stack with a bulk sack slung over it. The rubber wheels have now perished so won't be moving mine anywhere...

    Benchtop Planer / Thicknesser

Very similar to my Triton TPT125 which I'm very pleased with for the price. I will be making a removable melamine feed table for it soon to make it easier to feed through longer lengths. You will find ideas for this on YT. I agree that fitting it to a flip top cabinet is far better than lugging...

    DIY wind turbine....

Small wind turbines were all the rage 15 years ago until subsequent tests proved them to be ineffective. The biggest problem is squally winds, changing direction and speed very quickly, coupled with their inability to work in strong winds. This is especially true in urban areas with roof mounted...

    Building grade timber quality

I always try and hand pick mine, on the odd occasion I've ordered over the phone for delivery it has been a bit of a gamble - some have been like yours and I've taken them back and others have been excellent. I use Travis and midlands-based Discount Builders.

Building a workshop in an old stone built barn

With insulation there is the law of diminishing returns to consider, bear in mind that you don't want to live in this space but just comfortable to work in and reduce rust issues. I would use 60 to 100mm polystyrene in the floor (check eBay POLYSTYRENE EPS 70 INSULATION SHEETS 100MM 2400 X 1200...

    Shoulder planes, which one?

I also assumed you mean for cheeks as that's what I use my Stanley 71 for (and very good it is to with veritas cutters); I just use a sharp chisel for shoulders..

    Shoulder planes, which one?

Given the different options outlined on this thread, I think it is fair to say use whatever does the job for you. For the record, as well as the LN 140, I have a Record 3110, a Clifton 410 and a Stanley 78.
