    Build or Buy?

Sorry, by cost I was wondering how much to buy a ready made set. Based on the online prices from a nearby timber merchant, raw materials would cost £130. The example shown is on ebay at a cost of £275 but I have seen what appears to be identical spec items costing more than twice as much. No...

    Build or Buy?

This is my workshop door: To the untrained eye - and not without good reason - this looks a lot like an up-and-over, common or garden garage door. As such, it has it's limitations: 1) when open, it extends into the workshop by over four feet at a height of just over six feet off the ground...

    Favorite YouTube woodworker

Found him the right side of entertaining and informative if at times a little too "inyerface" when he was just a regular bloke but find his newer, largely infomercials less useful.

LOTS! I bought a box of 5000 for all these wondrous things I was going to build and I reckon there are still at least 70% of them unused. Having paid £35+ for a box of 500, £100+ for 5000 seemed an absolute bargain.

    Underground wasp nest

As a young child I confess I had the bug bug. I'd collect caterpillars and watch them metamorphose into butterflies, kept worms in a wormery, spiders and beetles in old shoe boxes and I'd fish for shrimps and leeches in the nearby stream - I was a lovely kid really. On one occasion - no more...

    Any Electronics Wizards?

I see Dewalt offer a mains adaptor for their 54v cordless mitre saw but not the table saw; I was wondering if there was a perfectly good reason why they can't? Or if it would be possible to construct an adaptor that would allow the DW7485 to operate off the mains?

    Axminster auctions and final price

ebay can be a strange place. Thing that bewilders me is those who allow 'best offers' then reject all offers even when within a penny of the BIN price!

    Dying trades

That relates to an earlier post that said apprentices used to be taken on close to the end of the "master's" career. Makes sound sense too. I left my former career nearly ten years ago now. I spent the last few years training eastern Europeans who would work for a fraction of the money a Brit...

    Triton TPT125 Planer

What's wrong with Aberdeen? It's produced some great things over the years - like me! Okay, I take your point. Re: Planing. As noted, it is a thicknesser however with the use of a sled it can be used to plane one side flat then flip it over to get the final thickness. Even when thicknessing I...
