    Drilling and Tapping Up

Read through both of AES' comprehensive posts, brain now well and truly fried. Draft shopping list so far: 1 x engineering vice 1 x 12" Hacksaw 1 x Selection of each blade mentioned 1 x Drawer full of quality files in flat, half round, round, triangular and special ali-file 1 x Cutting...

    Drilling and Tapping Up

Oops, no hacksaw either. I do have a set of draper files, think they cost about £3 from Wilko many years ago. I do have an angle grinder which meets my few metal cutting/grinding needs. Would you have a link to one of AES' articles on the subject?

    Drilling and Tapping Up

I don't have a plumbing torch and I can buy some M8 t-bolts from Axminster that will do the trick which was what I planned to do eventually. I was just trying to improvise to press the clamps ito immediate service. My other idea was to buy a length of aluminium and a carbide spiral bit to mill...

    Drilling and Tapping Up

Thanks chaps but all way above my skill level! What it was, I bought some "T-track, T-slot hold down clamps" however, as you can perhaps see from the photo in the initial post, the supplied nuts are sized for for 3/4" mitre track rather than 1/2" T-track. I did have some lozenge type flat nuts...

    Drilling and Tapping Up

I have been known to attempt to drill in reverse but this was with a bench drill, probably not a very good one but I don't want to lay all the blame at it's door. There have been times when a reverse on that would have been most useful! I used the bench drill to tap, thinking it would be more...

    Drilling and Tapping Up

What's the secret to successful drilling and tapping? I have a Pesto M8x1.25 Tap set, bought on a forum member's recomendation a few years ago and a 12" length of bar, the remains of an Irwin One Hand Clamp, which fits nicely into the t-track slot and already has a hole of around 6mm at one...

Pros and Cons of a Table Saw based Router Table?

I had this happen several times and almost again just now. Does seem to be a case of other posts going live between you starting and finishing your reply. When you press submit - on my screen at least - it does appear to go live but when I scrolled up a bit I noticed a message saying there was...

Axe throwing (is that a form of woodworking?)

Every summer, we'd make what was called 'Dog arrows', essentially a length of cane, usually something like playing cards cut to shape and wedged into a split cut into the cane, to act as flights, the open end of the split closed again with a rubber band. The business end shapened or a needle...

    Facial Reprise Only Temporary

Then you are doing a great disservice - to cowboys! I don't understand why we in the UK refer to dodgy tradesmen as "cowboys" when actual cowboys are master horsemen (and women too). Unlikely to get any media exposure but currently we have a team of six (mostly) young women out in S. Africa...

    Facial Reprise Only Temporary

Following on from a sander that went into orbit and whacked me in the chest, today it was the turn of a drill. I was drilling out some dog holes when the bit snagged and drill swung round to whack me full in the face. The boss says I look like I've gone a few rounds with Tyson. Again, could have...
