Using Melamine Chipboard as a Whiteboard

Ages ago and it didn't really work. It marked really quickly because the pens didn't clean off properly - even when using the fluid. Maybe try it and see? It'd be interesting to know.

Advice on making a floating bed

I cast a set of floating concrete steps last weekend using 18mm ply. It supported 250kg of wet concrete. Your bed'll be just fine! :)

    Electric chainsaw experience

Yes(ish) but all those pro's will have several petrol saws too, and they'll see heavy use. The converse is not true. There are still plenty of guys who are petrol only. It's still at the stage where battery only is not quite viable as a general purpose alternative for everyone. But you are...

Router table with built in motor

Ah, sorry MikeJhn, I was was comparing the Dewalt option to the triton option, not the Lumberjack. I'm still glad the lumberjack option works for you - I really am - but you are definitely braver than me!

Advice on making a floating bed

Beech would certainly be fine, but a decent redwood (pine) would be cheaper, and fine if you are going to paint it anyway. (I don't think that the DIY sheds sell decent redwood so you may need to source from a decent timber merchant.) Alternatively you could do a decent enough job with a sheet...

    Electric chainsaw experience

Just a quick note on Aspen (Aspen Alkylate Petrol | Alkylate Fuel | Aspen Fuel). There are two types. A straight replacement for petrol (Aspen4 - blue 5l can) and a ready mix that already includes 2-stroke oil (Aspen2 - red 5l can). It has four big advantages.... It's high quality and ready...

Router table with built in motor

LOL! I wasn't being cynical - honest :) I got my Dewalt before the Triton was out and I remember thinking "Darn, why wasn't the Triton around earlier!". I could very easily have brought one if it had been. I certainly wouldn't try to put anyone off. Before I had the spindle I used the...

    Electric chainsaw experience

I've not used the Makita, but I hear decent things about it. Ditto the Stihls, which I have tried, but don't own (Would definitely like to tho!) I suspect that battery is OK for light pruning and perhaps some climbing, but not for dismantling, ground work or a decent session of firewood...

Weather Proofing a Shed Gable End

TBH it's probably not worth going overboard with it. Decent external ply will last a good few years with a few coats of paint or varnish properly applied to it (esp on the edges). Personally i'd not bother with doing any more.

Advise on Router for Router Table

A bulletproof router if ever there was one. Son of the Elu MOF177 IIRC, and there are still plenty of those going strong. I love the idea of the Triton tho - it's cleverly designed.

Wall mount 16amp 2P+E - with interlock switch?

I think the points being made are... 1. You may know that that you shouldn‘t go sticking bits of your anatomy in a live consumer unit, but others following you may not. We are so used to risks being managed for us by regulation that we assume - incorrectly in this case - that things are...

    Plumbing help

If it works when you move it slowly I stand by my original question :) Are you absolutely sure the float is set low enough? (I'm just suspicious 'cos it looks like the float height and the water line in the cistern don't tally)

    Plumbing help

At the risk of sounding really stupid, and looking at the water marks, the water does get high enough to activate it doesn't it? (If you lift the lever attached to the float does the water turn off?)

Router table with built in motor

When I see stuff that cheap I always wonder about how good it can possibly be. That can't have more than, what, £30 of manufacturing cost in it. The entire thing costs little more than a big brand 1/4 inch handheld router. Maybe I'm just an old cynic and it's really accurate, safe, and...

    What RPM?

It;s the blade speed you are interested in , which depends on the diameter of the wheels and the RPM of the motor. I'm sure there is a "right" answer but I think it would work at pretty much any speed. (Some bandsaws have multiple speeds). That said I think running it too fast might be a...

Haha, snap! Ive done that too!

Router table with built in motor

Yes, I have used something similar and if I wanted a “no effort” routing table and money was not an object it’d be a good option. However the price is such that a small spindle moulder is almost within reach, especially a second hand one. If you can afford a bells and whistles router table can...

    Treehouse Windows - ideas please

Sounds overkill TBH, but a bit of fun and good practise. I can’t see why the principle wouldn’t work. I think you’d need to be a bit careful of the tolerances to avoid the window racking when you try to open it, so perhaps the rebate and fence idea? (Also stops little fingers discovering they...
