    Milling trees

Spent the day restacking last years milling. Nicely seasoning scots pine and some oak. The oak was leaning (reaction wood) so its not the greatest. I‘ll get a bit out it but in hindsight it was really firewood only. My big saw (80cc) runs a 24” bar for felling, and im not sure i’d want...

    Table Saw advice

I personally wouldn't rip on a bandsaw, although its how wood is generally milled commercially, and you can certainly do it. A site saw will cut 50mm deep easily and 75 with a bit of care. if you look at most construction its done with 50mm think of whatever width. If you need thicker you...

    Table Saw advice

Sounds to me like you are talking yourself into light trade kit. You want it to work reliably and quickly for a few years at least. you dont actually say what sizes you need to prepare though! Site saws, like the Metabo are exactly that, for use on site. Many a house has has been framed out...

    Metric cove router bits?

Have you looked at wealden tools? They are often a good starting point.

    Plunge Router buying advice please.

If that is all you are going to be doing with it I cant see it having too hard a life so I think any router would probably do. I‘d stretch to a 1/2 inch one if you can. I‘d spend any saving on a bottom cutting TCT bit from a good manufacturer (say Freud, CMT, maybe trend). if you are flush...

    How much?

I suspect they figured that you’d do if for love and be happy if you got a pint or two out of it. They just have no way of valuing it. Its not their fault, its the nature of the mass produced/cheap labour world we live in. I’d guess they genuinely liked it, and weren’t mucking you about when...

    Milling trees

BTW Holding a chainsaw between your knees is a recommended way of starting It. However its the other end you grip. https://images.app.goo.gl/NedyobZCd6k1sPaGA

    Milling trees

Another thumbs up for Rob at Chainsawbars. If you want to get into it thats the place to go. (But make sure you at least know one end of a chainsaw from the other! Using an alaskan mill type isn’t hard, but its not for a total beginner either)

    Green oak, post/beam joint.

Don't be so modest mate :) If that's the first time time you've done that a couple of holes and pegs will be a doddle! I'm darn sure I couldn't have done that as neatly on the first go.

    Green oak, post/beam joint.

I'd be proud of that. I like the stopped chamfers - nicely done sir. Are you going to peg it?

Not mine, from Albion, Virginia. A bullet embedded in the handle. I've seen it done a few times.

Advice on Kitchen Cabinet Furniture Doodads

Somebody who decided their worktop needed more electrics. So they cut a hole in it and screwed a double socket down using wood screws - they then wired it up as a spur from the lights.....in bell wire! I so wish I'd taken a photo....of my expression when I found it!

LOL :) At least it Makes for a neat talking point if you can include in whatever you are making tho.

    screwfix discount

Out of curiosity what did you go for? I’m in need of a framing nailer soon and can‘t decide between air, fuel and the dewalt battery. Air seems to make sense but for lugging around a darn grreat compressor. ok posts crossed over !

    screwfix discount

Ah well, good luck with the search. i hope someone comes through. (I like SF and wish them well, but their pricing does them few favours on many things)

Hate to say it, but try somewhere else? Screwfix is not the price conscious place it was since kingfisher acquired it.

    Re sawing oak

Yeah, i know, but depending on the saw you’d probably stall the blade first. But in any case you can wedge the kerf. But i fully accept that its not recommended, and if you‘re not confident Don’t do it.

    Re sawing oak

How many strips do you need? in theory you'd get 10 with a thin kerf blade, but that leaves precious little margin for error. Go for 9 and an ordinary blade would just do it. MikeG i right about the bandsaw, it probably could but I think - at least in my case - the operator would screw up! 27m...
