    Wine Carrier

Now I was thinking, that if you moved the glasses to the middle under the handle to make more space for the hand, you could put two bottles one either side which would improve the proportions. Or do I mean portions ...

    Replacment handle

That was one ugly handle ! Quite right to replace it, and the new one looks much better. Am I right in thinking the original ferrule was a sawn off solder ring type plumbing fitting ? I'd like to second Phil's recommendation for proper - or brass at least - ferrules. Copper pipe may be...

    CARVING AXE

Our greenwood group bought some of these for spoon carving courses, so I have hefted one. Although it says it is drop forged, the finish on the head looks to my eye like it was sand cast. According to a friend who owns one, its edge retention is sort of OK. It looks very similar in form and...

    Stool inset

You might use a scorp, but if it is not too great a hollow, a travisher might be enough, and is a bit easier to use / more subtle.

    Wine Carrier

Agreed, it looks great as it is. I made a similar oversight making the top tray of my toolbox quite hard to manoeuver out from under the handle. As that is meant to be a practical object, it is more irritating !

    Wine Carrier

The shape of the verticals to reflect the bottle, and the dip in the front to allow the label to be seen were good refinements. And that laser printing looks just the part, it looks very much like it belongs in a tasting room. It does look to me like you need fairly slender fingers though ?

    Earlex wall paper stripper

I don't know about that particular steamer, but mine had a screw connector which was an old pipe thread, maybe 1/4. I found some fittings to adapt it to a nylon pipe. Using plantpots as and plugs Mike Abbott style, the pipe poked nicely through one of the drain holes ! My pipe was 2m long, and...

    Any email gurus out there?

I have the joy of being with Tiscali/TalkTalk. I use linux and POP3, my colleage uses Windows 10 and IMAP, both mostly work but he seems maybe to have a few more problems than me with e-mail connectivity, but whether that is POP/IMAP or Windows/linux I can't be sure. The problems sending...

Cure for stinky Marples splitproof chisels

I wondered that too. If it is a vomit smell, then presumably it is acidic, and so I wondered if bicarbonate of soda as a paste might help. You could just split off the handles and make new ones. Oh wait a minute, they're splitproof

Steam fair haul - Marples gouges

So simple, filler or epoxy. Why didn't I think of that ? Thanks. Just need to sort a new ferrule - I have several sizes of brass tube to hand, and of course this is none of them !

    Eyes

Which is what I was trying to say earlier. Probably quite normal. But if you are worried you are doing the right thing in getting a sight test. I have to say that, my wife is a (lapsed) optometrist !

Steam fair haul - Marples gouges

At a steam fair with the familiy at the weekend I happened upon (to their dismay !) a tool stall. They had a few new old stock items, including some Marples carving gouges, like this one: The gouges were branded Marples both on the handle and the steel. The plastic packaging is Bacho...

    Eyes

I thought that was normal. The focus and vergance of your eyes adjust to what you're looking at,. stick a finger up about a foot in front of your face and alternately look at it, and the background. One or the other is double and out of focus. Or am I missing something ?

    Seating dimensions?

That looks like a useful reference, thanks Custard. The first chair I made was to a Clissett design, and it struck me as being a little on the large side. Perhaps he was a large seated gentleman ? But, its measurements tally welll with the larger sizes for a chair intended just for adults...

Advice for crosscutting dowels on tablesaw.

Ahh, you didn't say that. Mind you, A&E waiting is quite time consuming too. I'd also do it by hand. The Irwin hardpoint tenon saws are cheap and quite up to the job, and a serviceable bench hook is easy to make.

    Art???

We could discuss what defines "expert". I came across a woman once who was described in the press as "an expert on crystals". And by that they did not mean she was an expert on x-ray crystalography ! "expert" can have a similar entry level to "celebrity". I like the idea of it being the...

    Art???

I don't know what her art is like, but TalkTalk think she is a pornographer ! ?

What's the point of dovetail joints?

Should we really believe that modern glues are stronger than the wood ? I mean not just initially, but after a few years of the wood moving with the seasons and repeated loading. Part of my pole lathe failed at the weekend, and it was a glue joint that pulled apart neatly under shear force...

CE marking of handmade products for sale

I come from the point of view of a small company (3 !), but was specifically talking about the electronics aspect. I am hoping that the OP is just meaning to incorporate a bought in electronic device in his product, in which case he can probably not read on ... If you think the directives...

CE marking of handmade products for sale

When you say they have electronics in them - is that a single, bought in electronic part like a clock movement, something homebrew or something in between ? If the former, it might not be too difficult. If it's any sort of homemade electronics, or even the marrying together of more than one CE...
