    First router bits

Hello, I will shortly have my first router (likely a Trend T11 and a CRT/MK3), but with no experience of them I'm struggling to work out what a sensible set of bits would be. I wonder if anyone could give me any advice please? I'll be using it for small boxes and the like. I'll want to be able...

    BS300E

In case anyone else finds themselves in the same boat, here's how it turned out: I talked to a couple of resellers, and they were much more optimistic about delivery into the garage. I ordered from one, and the pallet was delivered were I wanted with no problems. The bandsaw was delivered with...

    BS300E

I'm not too worried about assembly, as I can do that at a convenient time, when suitable help is around. I fear delivery will happen at a time and day that suits the delivery company, though! As I understand it, Record will send it via a third party delivery company who "aren't insured to" put...

    BS300E

Hi, A quick question for anyone who's had a BS300E delivered: I understand that it will be delivered to outside the house (semi-disassembled, on a pallet of some sort), but I will obviously want to get it safely inside pretty quickly! Getting it into the garage should only be a matter of...

Dust extraction for bench/hand power tools; shop vac?

I finally trekked out to Axminster to prod things in person, and I'm coming around to the idea of the NVD750. Thank you for making me reconsider it! I'm a little confused by the way it jumps between 51mm and 32mm for the central connector, though. Am I right in thinking that the central...

Dust extraction for bench/hand power tools; shop vac?

The impression that I got was that everything except the router was going to easily be within the power limits. And for a small (palm?) router, even that would be fine. But the worst case scenario is that for some tools I don't use the vac's socket and turn it on and off another way (as I'd...

Dust extraction for bench/hand power tools; shop vac?

Interesting! I don't think I even looked at that one due to the lack of socket. But from the manual, I get the impression that it only deals well with the small, harmful stuff when using the smaller inlet. I'm also not sure whether it would be better than another shop vac with an external adapter.

Dust extraction for bench/hand power tools; shop vac?

Great, thanks! I understand that the sanders will be producing most of the nasty stuff, so I'll do the best I can with the band saw but not worry too much about it.

Dust extraction for bench/hand power tools; shop vac?

Hi, I've been reading up on the ins and outs of dust extraction, and I think I've got is sussed, but I thought it worth double checking before I go out spending a lot of money on the wrong thing! So could anyone tell me if this sounds sensible please? My primary goal is to reduce the amount of...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

According to the specs online, the 12" models have more than 3 times the footprint of the Axy 10", and more than double the Record 10". Although now I think about it, I'll need to make thick cuts not only for resawing, but also for any "band saw box"-making, which makes me a little more...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

OK, having read through many bandsaw threads on here, I've decided that a bandsaw is indeed the way to go; either the Axminster HBS250N or the Record BS250. Based on the old threads, with an appropriate tuffsaws blade, these ought to handle the bits of wood I've already got (up to 8cmx6cm), and...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

Thanks, but I'm not sure I can justify spending the extra if something like http://www.screwfix.com/p/evolution-800 ... arms/48911 will do the trick. That looks a little curious to me. I thought you always wanted the sand paper moving towards the table. I'll check it out!

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

OK, I am very glad I posted for advice! Thanks to everyone for your input! I think you've convinced me that a table saw is the wrong option. I'm now thinking instead of the Axminster AWSMS102 254mm Slide Mitre Saw. This would be a little cheaper (although I'd need to get a stand for it too)...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

Hmm, I was thinking that grooves meant doing the same as cutting, but with the blade lower down. But I guess maybe you'd need to take the blade guard off to get the wood to go through or something? Anyway, if I cross grooves off of the list, then would a portable table saw make sense for me? Or...

Advice for a beginner's first table saw

Hello, I'm looking at buying my first woodworking saw, and I wonder if anyone could give me some advice, please? I've never really done any woodworking (well, a tiny bit many years ago at school, but even then not using a powered saw), but this year I've set myself the challenge of making some...
