    Woodworking Show Information

Given that APTC have a downer on Scheppach & Kity, how do we who live in Devon & Cornwall get to see the machines? Is Yandles now the nearest supplier? Cheers, David PS Sorry slightly off thread, but I'm going to Tools 2004 and wanted to see the full NMA range.

    Screwfix ??

I placed an order on Monday evening and it arrived yesterday (Wednesday). It was packed in a new 'system' box, which does away with the airfilled sausages. One item was missing, so I contacted customer support, who are arranging for the item to be sent. Whilst talking to the lady I mentioned...

    Stanley 271

Thanks to all for the comments - I'll persevere with the take the stone to the tool method. Cheers, David

    Stanley 271

Can anyone pass on some words of wisdom as to a good method of sharpening the blade on a 271? I find it very difficult to hold it in a consistent manner and consequently the bevel has a somewhat multifaceted look about it! Cheers, David

    Screwfix ??

I placed an order on Monday evening for some building items. Two parcels arrived yesterday, 1of 2 & 2 of 2. An invoice in one of them indicated that the other items would be sent to me in another dispatch(s). I then tried the online order tracker only to find the message that you've all found...

Can the MenAtNMA give us an update?

Thanks for the update Richard. The speed at which I'm getting my new workshop built will probably fit in with the Schepach timetable! Cheers, David

Can the chaps at NMA give us an update on the likely availability of the replacement Kity range? Cheers, David

    Single handed cabinet scraper

I purchased mine to use when stripping paint from pine furniture, doors etc and found the ability to slide the blade out sideways was very handy in tight spots. The downside was that if I'd been using chemical stripper the blade would often dig in due to the fibres being damp in the very places...

    Single handed cabinet scraper

Alf, You must have must have a very large library, as Skarsten scrapers have been around since time immemorial! Andy, The they do work well if you use two hands. With single handed use it is all too easy to roll the blade to one side and dig into the wood. David

    Thank you very much!

TX & Alf, I've an Acorn #4, which I bought back in 1973 from a hardware shop in down town Fenny Stratford. It has a little sticky label on the rear handle which says that it is a Chapman plane made by Stanley. The word Stanley is written in an odd script that bears no resemblance to the usual...

    Replacement Batteries

I've recently had my Bosch 9.6V 1.2Ah batteries rebuilt by Re-Cell. The company has done an excellent job of the rebuild and in the process upped the capacity to 2.0Ah. Cost was £26 per battery, which I reckon to be well worth the money as I've now got my faithful Bosch unit back rather than...

    Workshop Building

A couple of points worth a mention: Don't forget building regulations - you may well be OK on the planning side but building regs will stop you from using wooden construction if you are going to be within a metre of the boundary. Your local council can supply you with a useful guide or go the...

    Kity news??

At the Yandles show, back in April, a chap from NMA reckoned that the Best-Combi machines would be available again in late summer, with other machines to follow. David

    Yandles Spring Show

Alf, I too can thoroughly recommend the Yandles shows (Spring and Autumn). Good atmosphere and bargins everywhere. It is well worth trundling up to A30/A303. David

    new workshop - advice please

A good place to check out planning rules is here http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/wps/portal/action/ChangePage/.pg/6e/.reqid/13?homeDoc=true. Also note that the building regs require that any building over 15 sq metres in area and less than 1 metre from a boundary must be built of of...

    Random Orbital Sanders

Neil, I gave the Metabo a quick check out this weekend and found it to be very efficient. I hooked up my small vacuum extractor to it and discovered that the seals are so good that the disc is held to the wood by the suction. The 6mm orbit is quite ruthless in its ability to cut away the...

    Random Orbital Sanders

A big thanks to Neil for spotting that DM-Tools are selling the Metabo via their web site with two Bessey clamps included. I ordered on Friday evening and they arrived yesterday. The clamps are UK60 types (600mm x 80mm) with a normal selling price of £14.65 each. So with the Metabo at £139 this...

Radial Arm Saws or Cross cut

I've a Powershop Radial arm saw purchased some 20 years ago. It is now very worn and consequentially inaccurate. Spare parts have been non-existent for many years. Although the saw provided me with years of very good service it had one very big fault - one needed to wear two pairs of...
