How do I improve mitre accuracy?

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies. Your comments are detailed and demand a proper reply, so I will try to explain where I am with this, what I've tried and how such things may relate to the comments made. One issue that comes up time and again when aiming for first quality work (as custard...

How do I improve mitre accuracy?

Yes its just one thats out, I'm thinking its cumulative error as I was pretty careful when marking/cutting. I cut the mitres on a mitre saw.

How do I improve mitre accuracy?

Putting together a ply desk for someone. It's going to be mounted to a wall with batons, so I only had to work up a top and some support for the underside. Nothing complicated. I decided to mitre the corners of the frame, just to see how accurate I could get it. It's turned out ok...

Sedgwick 10" planer thicknesser blade adjustment issue

Perhaps a daft question, but have you tried swapping the chip breakers around....? By those dimensions you have the same knife size as me, so that can't be it. Hmmmm.

Sedgwick 10" planer thicknesser blade adjustment issue

Would a different blade size help do you think? These don't sit as deep as the original set I had, as they are only 1" high. Axminster 810442 - KNIVES FOR SEDGWICK PT 10 1/4"X1"X1/8" (PACK 2) Can we have some pictures?

A lot of really pertinent points made guys, thank you. It's a difficult situation. I did consider a farm building and went to view one, but it would have been very hard to secure and given the nature of what i'd be storing, the farmer felt that it would be a prime target. He gets burgled...

Thanks Peter. I'm only managing because I have my machines elsewhere, so I have a massively inconvenient setup already. lol I like your videos on youtube by the way, I was watching some a few days ago :)

Very valid points Andy, thanks. Thank you for the input everyone. Might have seemed a silly question to ask but its a sizeable commitment/change so a range of opinions is always valued.

    Incra Router Table/Router Combo's - any advice?

I've spent about 2 hours on your site this week Peter. I still haven't a clue which bits I'd need. If I do go ahead with a purchase, it will be with you as Rutlands are on my personal **** list. For want of a better phrase. What I'd really like to do is come on one of your courses. Maybe...

    Travel distance to workshop

Tell you what mate, you jest but for the last big project I did, I had 15 sheets of 18mm ply (in various states of finish) in an area of work thats 200sq ft at best. A nightmare doesn't even begin to cover it. I practically had to use it for flooring. lol Don't ever want a repeat of that...

I think you're right. Motivation would certainly be tested, but that may be a good thing? If you're starting any kind of business you need bucket loads of motivation, if theres even a hint of laziness, you're already going south. Half of this battle is knowing whether I'm in the right game...

    Travel distance to workshop

No, I could make do with 750. Single garage size (300 or so) wouldn't work due to the machinery I already have. The way units tend to be split, 1000sq ft seems to provide the best overall value. 500sq ft for example, would only be £100 per month or so cheaper from what I've seen locally...

Indeed. This would be down the M62 and the timing of the journey would avoid rush hour, mostly. Kind, sorta. It's likely to take me about 1hr to get there on average.

Guys, I really need a new place to work and unfortunately, around my way, space is pretty expensive. Well, it's expensive unless you're literally moving a full time business in there, which I'm not doing yet. 1,000 sqft is going to run me about £600/mo in rent, add to that utilities and...

    Incra Router Table/Router Combo's - any advice?

Thank you very much for going to all that trouble custard. The shim idea is something I'm going to look at doing. It's interesting about the router housings for the guide rails. I do have them fitted properly and adjusted, but even with minute turns of the screws, its either too loose or...

    Upcycling

Thats identical to the coffee table my parents had when I was growing up. Is it marked as Schreiber? They would have bought it in the mid 70's. Most of their other furniture was the same make, as they couldn't afford G-Plan apparently. Lovely painting...!

    Incra Router Table/Router Combo's - any advice?

Oh good lord are you sure you want to go to all that trouble? That would be amazing. Over the year or so I've had the setup I've used it for all manner of things but this one had me beat I don't mind admitting. It was dead on accurate laterally, but vertical was difficult to maintain as was...

    Incra Router Table/Router Combo's - any advice?

Thanks dude, I'll look into the jig option. The plot thickens..... I have an MFT and the OF1400 but despite having just about every clamp going and scrap wood galore, I can't make it work. The problem with guided routing for me has been that there are minute variations in flex on the...
