    Drilling through cross-grain

The line up seems to be fine - I would know in a minute if the points weren't lining up, and I can drill perfectly well down the grain. To be honest, I'm using a 10mm metal drill at the moment, but have gone through every type of bit. I've got one of those MAD drills on order - like a...

    Drilling through cross-grain

'Fraid that's not it. Everything's 'kissing' beautifully.

    Drilling through cross-grain

It would help if I could keep the drill straight when drilling through timber mounted across the grain. Is there any way I can improve on this? It's completely useless to me. I'm using a 10mm bit in a Jacobs chuck mounted in the tailstock.

SIP Mini Wood lathe 01492 - Runs Away

This made me laugh. I have a spot like that on my Record Power VS and husband always tells me 'it's dust on your potentiometer'. Maybe he's not as dumb as I think he is :)

    Workshop insulation

This is interesting, but I sweep the floor less in the winter. Standing on a good layer of shavings helps. I tried running an oil-filled rad. but our energy supplier thought that might be why our bills had gone through the roof.

    Snake wood, anybody ?

Robin mentioned he might be taking some to the Harrogate show. I'm told it cracks readily and is expensive, so I might pass on it.

    Chestnut Buffing System

I do agree on this point, and actually find the second wheel can leave light deposits on dark wood.

    Red Ivory & Leadwood

I use it quite a lot when making hand-spinning tools. It's hard enough to get in a good raspberry pink, but I certainly never saw it quite that red before. Lovely.

    Red Ivory & Leadwood

I use Pink Ivory all the time but have never seen that.

    HP dust extractors

I have this one too and I agree, it's efficient but a bit noisy.

    Heed your inner voices, sometimes!

Very well done - I think we all dread moments like that.

    What Buffing system.

I use the Chestnut system - only one I've used so can't really compare. Frequently, I get to wheel B and find I missed a bit, so have to rever to wheel A, so the all on one bar system would be usefulo, but otherwise I couldn't be without it. I must say, the Beal domed wheels look a better...

    3/4" tool rests

I've tried sanding it a few times - must have another go.

    Flotsam

I love this. But I don't know which piece to look at first - they compete with each other for me. It's like a pretty girl with an over-fussy hairstyle. Both are lovely, but they possible take away from each other because they're both so good. For me, anyroadup.
