Diy jigs etc - help to source components

Visiting the UK in the near future, and I would like to bring back with me as many of the components that I think that I will be needing. Most items will be pre-ordered and delivered to an UK address, for me to collect. I'd appreciate any help in finding good quality & good value sources for...

Does a Metal garage roof increase the temperature in the summer?

Just to add, if you decide to remove the asbestos yourself: Always absolutely soak it with water, first. Both sides. thoroughly hose it down. Mask and gloves etc. Dust is the problem. Aggravated as the sheets break up, and they will. Cheers.

    Wood store advice and ideas.

Safest place to increase loading on the gangnail trusses will be closet to the walls. Definitely nowhere near the mid span point. You could also use the walls to provide additional support and to take some loading from the trusses.

Fire door offcuts - how to join ?

Thanks for the replies. I think that I'll give it a go. It's only my time, and the offcuts were foc anyway. I'll machine it all up and then do a dry fit to see how it looks. Cheers.

Fire door offcuts - how to join ?

Thanks Lons. Your point regarding the mating faces is, of course, crucial. I think I'll trim the faces using my table saw with an 80 tooth new blade. I should get a pretty smooth finish that way. I'll also mark each piece with 'F' for the leading end, and 'T' for the upper face. When cramping...

Fire door offcuts - how to join ?

Thanks for that. I was thinking that I could cut a slot in each section - say 7mm wide by 20mm deep, and then machine a long fillet - say 5mm thick and 35mm wide. Then clamp sections together using heavy weights to keep it all true. Obviously this would need a true/level bed to work from. Does...

Fire door offcuts - how to join ?

I have several offcuts from 1 hour fire door blanks. These are all the same thickness, either 45 or 50mm. Cannot recall at the moment. They vary from 75 to 250mm in width. They are approximately 2400mm long. The construction seems to be 2/3/4mm plywood on both faces, with a softwood core of...

    FL&B External Door poser

If cladding with vertical t&g boarding, how tight should the joints be ? Each door leaf will be 900mm wide, 2000mm high. Timber will be douglas fir. Tg&v boards will finish at 19x125mm. Thanks.

    Floor Sander question

Looking for recommendations for a suitable machine, please. I have 5 rooms to renovate. No more than 16m2 each. Some are oak boarded, some laminate strip flooring. The rooms will be cleared, and skirtings removed. Unlikely to need the machine when work is complete. So could sell the machine when...

    Dust Control & Health Issue

Spent Christmas & New Year in hospital being treated for influenza type A (the nasty one) and double pneumonia. Now on the mend, but a slow process. The likely problem going forward is early stage COPD. I'm guessing there are those on the forum who will have had to face the dust issue in this...

    Drilling Hardened Steel

I've about 100nr 13mm dia holes to drill in 6mm hardened steel. Two questions please: a) is milling in a pillar drill the way to go ? b) are solid carbide bits the best bet ? Thanks.

    Table Saw Tenon Jig

Many thanks all for the suggestions. I'll have to give it some thought as to what's best for me going forward. You've confirmed my thought that putting large timber sections vertically past a table saw is not good. Best Regards.

    Table Saw Tenon Jig

Fairly new to woodworking and so would be grateful for some advice please. I have several large and heavy oak external doors to make. They will be fl&b and vertically boarded. I have a morticer, so no problems there, i hope. Would like to form the tenons with my Wadkin AGS10 using a 'safe'...
