And people wonder why they get their identities nicked...

One bank I use (cahoot) have given me a webcard which is essentially a program on my computer which generates a one off credit card on my screen. You set the maximum amount payable and quote your details to the mail order company with impunity knowing that they won't be able to use the number...

Good Film tonight for UK mmbers

I went to school with Joe, and played rugby with him. I always remember him as having large thick squarish spectacles and being a very good if extremely fragile scrum half. He always seemed to be getting carted off the rugby field with one injury after another. I was quite astonished about this...

    Aluminim extrusions

I think I've got most of the bits from a segewick TA315 tablesaw fence. You'd need to buy able to drill two at a guess 10 or 12mm holes in the side of your table to mount a substantial steel bar ~ 20mm diameter on which the fence runs. It's a pretty heavy duty setup, but it's lying idle at the...

    Wireless printing - A&G

I've been using wireless printing for ages - It took a little while to set up, but since then no problems. Ive got a Linksys wireless G printerver which feeds two printers an epson photostylus something or other, and an absolutely superb Canon Pixma ip5000 - highly recommended. I've not moved...

SIP pillar drill and P/T questions

I stuck a silver steel bar in the chuck of a scheppach at a show a year or so ago, it had shockingly bad runout for the price. I was quite surprised to see the axminster as editors choice - it was one of the drills I gave the silver steel bar test to during the same woodworking show and it too...

SIP pillar drill and P/T questions

All the SIP drill's I've looked at have been junk with terrible runout - you don't even need to put anything in the chuck to feel it. I'd guess that the draper drills are the same low budget taiwanese. The record drills I've seen are not in the same league - far superior (unless they've changed...

    Broadband for dummies

Try plusnet http://www.plus.net/products/broadband_home.html 1Mb £14.99 2mb £19.99 It used to be in position 1 or 2 every month (as rated by it's users) when I was choosing a broadband ISP. the firefly product looks very expensive unless it's complely unlimited bandwidth. You can use your own...

    Another which bench saw question.

Rattie, I've been quoted £1600 but I've mislaid the phone number and name of the guy who gave me that quote. I think quotes of £1800 are quite easy to get. If you're interested I'll post the details when (hopefully) I find them. Would you go for the TA315 at that price - that includes the...

    pacer cnc router system

I took a look at the trend stand at woodmex and one of the example engraving pieces was absolutely fantastic - I was very impressed. I had no idea that kind of quality could be produced from a wood router. It looked like the finest kind of metal cnc engraving. I didn't see it getting made - it...

    Another which bench saw question.

Anyone got any thoughts about which would be better a sedgewick TA315 or a scheppach TS4010ci especially since you can get the sedgewick several hundred pounds cheaper.

    Another which bench saw question.

Noelly, I know that the price for iron has risen quite a lot but I always understood that aluminium was cheaper because you get a lot more volume of aluminium per unit weight than you do iron. This certainly used to be true.

    Stoneleigh Show

I must admit that I've never found NMA to be very helpful at shows - I've tried to ask questions about setting up machines or ordering spares and they've almost always told me to call them on the phone. It would have been nice if I could have just have ordered spares by pointing to the component...

    Cnc milling machine

If you're only milling 8x10 then the pacer seems quite large. Have you considered small metal milling machines like the taig, sherline, and the maxnc. You might have to turn your piece to get 8" Y travel but I bet you could get quite a few of these machines for the same price as your pacer...

    Triton dust collector

Keith - I'm not sure I understand your terminology here - but, as I understand it - with an atmpspheric pressure of approximately 1 bar - ( anyone know the metric equivalent in hectoPascals - thought not - me neither!! ) you could power your vacuum cleaner with a merlin engine but it's still not...

    Milling Machine

Since I got my cnc milling machine - I've been loitering in quite a few CNC newsgroups and there are quite a few examples of people who say that they've had these hobby type mills running for years without missing a step. The general concensus seems to be that its not always necessary to have...

    Milling Machine

Funnily enough I've just bought one of these small milling machines on ebay - it cost about £1k delivered from the states. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid129/p91f7f426a28c756c0248ace162de1876/f7c7d60c.jpg It's got a work envelope of about 10" x 5" x 6" (xyz respectively). These can...
