Thank you for the suggestion to use the Trend version. It sounds like the solution.

    Silicone-free spray

Virutex recommend CANTSPRAY, which they describe as a non-adherent silicone-free spray, for use on all the movable parts of their edgebanders, especially the cutter blades. Can anyone please point me to a suitable, more easily available, equivalent product?

Sedgwick morticer - replacing collet with a chuck

Thank you for your offer to post a picture of your arrangement. However, if it means keeping the original collet and connecting the chuck into it, I don't have the room. Distance between bottom of motor, and the housing for the bottom collet, is 4 inches. The existing top collet extends 2 and...

Sedgwick morticer - replacing collet with a chuck

Thank you, Olly, for that promising news. How did you get the old collet off the motor spindle? I suppose until I find out the motor spindle diameter I can't make any real progress. When you say you may be able to find the old sleeve, does that mean it is no longer in use? John

Sedgwick morticer - replacing collet with a chuck

I have an old Sedgwick morticer with a collet for holding the auger. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to replace this collet with a chuck, as fitted to the current Sedgwick model? If so, is there anyone who has done this change who can tell me how to do it? Thank you. John

1/4 inch collet for collet extension

Hi Pete Thank you for the suggestion of a collar. I had a look at them on the Trend site and noted that they only recommend it as a short term solution. Would you agree with this assessment. I have also considered getting a new collet extension, such as the CMT version, sold by Screwfix, which...

1/4 inch collet for collet extension

I have a ‘Fox’ brand router collet extension with a 1/2 inch shank to a 1/2 inch collet. Can anyone please suggest where I might try to obtain a 1/4 inch collet and nut to fit this make of extension. The nut that came with the 1/2 inch collet needs a 30 mm spanner but I don’t know what size...

    SDS drill advice please

I've had a Bosch GBH 2-24 for many years and it has given me great service. You might like to consider the Bosch GBH 2400 at Screwfix for just under £100, item number 25831. John

Disc sanding machine : changing and re-using discs.

At long last, I am now able to report back on my hook and loop set-up for my 250 mm disc sander. I first removed the existing self adhesive disc and then set about removing all remnants of the adhesive from the metal disc. I did this using a combination of a scraper, fine steel wool, rags and...

Thank you, Ian, for that reply. I can now go ahead with confidence and get the velcro. John

Disc sanding machine : changing and re-using discs.

My 250 mm bench-top disc sander uses self-adhesive discs. I would like to have the ability to use different grits for different jobs but it’s obviously impossible to re-use the self-adhesive discs once they have been pulled off the metal disc. I can get velour backed discs but I need a method...

Mounting square section accurately between centres

Thank you one and all for those helpful suggestions. I've decided to use the chuck on one end, with a revolving centre at the other end. John

Mounting square section accurately between centres

I am about to prepare some square section timber planing it down to 40 mm, to make them into staircase spindles. The ends of the finished spindle will remain square at 40mm. How do I mount each piece of timber accurately between centres so that the parts which I am leaving square will turn...

    Trend Diamond Taper File

I've been looking at the video on the Trend site of their 6 inch taper file and it looks like a tool I could make good use of. Has anyone any experience of using one and if so, what do you use as a lubricant for the diamond? The video recommends the use of the Trend lapping fluid, at nearly £8...

    Kreg v Jessem

Thank you for all those helpful comments. From what is being said, I'm certainly been drawn towards the Jessem. How efficient is the dust extraction through the 2.5 inch outlet?

    Kreg v Jessem

I am looking for views from anyone who has experience of the Kreg and/or Jessem router table tops and fences. I am considering buying a table top and fence and making my own cabinet. I have read a few comments on a forum, made several years ago, that some of the Jessem fences and tables were...

    Metabo HC260 v Dewalt 27300 planer/thicknessers

Thank you for that Roy. After all the advice, I have now decided to go for seperates and am looking at the Axminster CT150 planer. Would your Metabo thicknesser be the DH330? If so, can you recommend it? John

    Metabo HC260 v Dewalt 27300 planer/thicknessers

Roy, it may not be a one off. I have an Electro Beckum version and one of the tables is certainly not true. For that reason I was looking for a P/T with about the same capacity, but with tables which are true. Have you any suggestions? I was wondering if the new Metabo, with a 3 year...
