    Makita 4300bv blades

Thanks Richard, I had come across those. Sadly they are not equivalent to Makita 42's, they are equivalent to Makita 41's and may be very good. I contacted the folks at UkJigsawBlades who thought that No.41 was the highest number available. However an email to Makita confirmed the fact that...

    Prince's Foundation year

What a lucky so and so. Training to be able to handle that variety of work. I'll bet there are quite a few on here, like me, who would like an opportunity to be involved in work of that sort. Great start, I'm sure non of the experience will be lost on you. It is good to know that craftsmen with...

To froe or not to froe

Just remembered. Apparently the word Froe is derived from the old word Fromard, as in the opposite of Toward, it turns up in 'to and froe'. Strange what sticks isn't it? xy

    Makita 4300bv blades

Help anyone please. I have a Makita 4300bv jigsaw, and I wouldn't change it by choice. Unfortunately it uses the Makita shank blades, not the bayonet style of fixing. The Makita shank blades are getting harder to find easily. Recently I came across this company...

To froe or not to froe

Sorry I don't recognise that as a Froe. Most that I have seen, in the flesh and in image, have a large eye instead of a tang. This will be stronger than a tang, as is needed to withstand tremendous twisting forces. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=image ... 80&bih=902 xy

    College projects

Hi Owen, I am no master craftsman, nor vastly experienced, but to me that body of work looks to be to an extremely high standard. Well done! xy

    A recent Trinket Box

Toby, In my best Leslie Phillips voice " OOO Nasty", but seriously I hope your thumb/hand has returned, or is returning, to a useful condition. A long time ago, in a place called Mankinholes (above Todmorden and Hebden Bridge), I met a guy carving Viol tops with an adze, he said he was accurate...

    A recent Trinket Box

Toby, Hard maple, well it just goes to show. I claim to have been thrown by the colour, my monitor etc. Still a great box. Don't worry about muscling in, the more the merrier! The grooves to the edges of the notch, look very evenly spaced that sort of thing eludes me as yet. I always get...

    A recent Trinket Box

Thanks Hanser. Toby, I can see where the pencil box idea comes from. Nevertheless that is a clean looking box, in that it looks to be precisely made. Do you have any trouble with the slide sticking? It looks to be made of Cherry, a nice wood to work and, I'm told, often used as a Walnut...

    A recent Trinket Box

Thank you Dw. Sadly everyone else in this household keeps asking "What is it for?" and "Something else to dust?". Still I enjoy it. Toby, thank you. It is not my design ... Go for it. I like the fact that I did not have to source any hardware. That is not as easy as it used to be, thirty or...

    A recent Trinket Box

Hi all, For some time I have had one of those pieces of wood that will "come in one day" and anyway it is "too good to chuck out". This piece was nice tight grained Oak, I cannot tell you the particular variant. It was given to me by someone who had been keeping it, on the same basis, for quite...

Hi Jimi, I'm pleased that occurred to you. I don't like sticking my nose in, especially on such a masterpiece. Keep up the good work. xy

    The UKW Infill Project

In the page shot of Kingshott's book I wonder if the pivot point is more related to the plane body than the lever? Personally I would consider leaving the final decision until I had an iron, and possibly cap iron, to play with. I am sure you will get it right. xy

    What single product to make?

Apparently in 'The Gold Rush' the people who made money ... sold shovels and picks. What do folk spend money on with little thought? Weddings and pets. So, wedding reception furniture, table sized must haves or self assembly homes for pets. There was a thread on here recently about post boxes...
