    France

Scott, I on the Swiss side of the border - nearer Baden in Kanon Aargau - nearer than Normandy for sure. Not sure if you've looked at Swiss suppliers ? I haven't had the chance yet but will let you know if I find anything good. IIRC, France is supposed to be good for Oak.

Can you really make a decent living at woodworking?

One of the things *many* small businesses fail in the early days is due to lack of advertising - you have to tell people you are out there ready for them. Once you've built up a good client base then you might be lucky and word of mouth might be enough, but until then, send out flyers, put ads...

    anyone fancy a chat ?

TRying it now - since I found MSN chat ain't too popular any more :-)

    Chat ?

Greetings, Any sort of chat sessions on this site ? I couldn't see any links... We used to enjoy chat on Sunday evening on the other site (MSN) and I wondered if the facility is available here or does it still go on at the other site ?

That's a horrible thing to call the people from Stoke-on-Trent.

    Leigh D4 vs Trend DC400 ?

Thanks Alf - you could get decent discounts at the old Wembley shows, and the D&M/Kempton shows have some good deals, but I didn't notice much in the way of good discounts last time I went to the Axminster show. Not sure I can make it over for Tools '04 anyway, so suspect I'll bite the bullet...

    Forum users' Table saws

E/B PK200 - generally does a good job, especially with a decent Freud blade. Dust extraction doesn't always work well - I tend to get huge build-ups of dust inside the machine and this has jammed the height adjustment a few times.

    Forum users' Planers & Thicknessers

I've got the E/B HC260 - it's served me well enough, but I'll be upgrading to seperate planer and thicknesser in the new year (I'm rather hoping I might find some decent 2nd-hand Felder gear on sale somewhere nearby - especially since Austria is only just down the road !) The blades on the E/B...

    Leigh D4 vs Trend DC400 ?

Neoly & Alf, Thanks for the links most interesting. Now I'm leaning towards the 'rat as it looks far more useful long term and I do have the wall space - but has anybody had problems with bits of it breaking ? I noticed the guy in the woodshopdemos managed to break one of the cams ! Where's...

    Leigh D4 vs Trend DC400 ?

Alf/Anybody, Got any links (preferably to online videos) on how to use the 'rat ? as it's a bit of a mystery to me how it's used because I've never really seen it demoed, never looked at it up close, and from a distance it just looks like a router holder on a slippery board with no means of...

    Leigh D4 vs Trend DC400 ?

Greetings, I'm leaning towards getting a dovetail jig as I will need to make large batch of drawers in the near future (SWMBOs furniture list !). Also would like to be able to do sliding dovetails if possible as I use this a lot in carcases and have great problems cutting the tail board...

    Screwfix ??

Just checked this morning as I wanted to look at prices for copper pipe benders (gotta do some bathroom re-plumbing) - they are still not taking orders and you can't even browse their catalogue. Unbelievable - and this must be killing their cashflow on what is I suspect a quite low-margin...

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

Adam, Bluetooth shipping 3 million/week !!! I guess the vast majority of those are phones (*rest are PDAs and computer keyboards/mice - but how many people are actually using bluetooth on their phones - I suspect the number is very very small.

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

Bluetooth is hardly new, and it's not making anywhere near as much impact as the manufacturers hoped and expected - in fact wifi (802.11 in its various guises) will probably kill off bluetooth even though it was not specifically designed with bluetooth-type transmission ranges in mind.

Thumbs up Axminster - Bog Off Rutlands :-)

Devonwoody, Having completely worked my arse off for the 13 months prior to the move to CH - such that I had no time or energy to do *any* WW at all - SWMBO is positively encouraging me to buy the tools I need (want ?) because she has a *long* list of projects for me (not sure if that needs a...

Thumbs up Axminster - Bog Off Rutlands :-)

oh yes - I guess it could have been considered a gentle drive-by :-) I thought about the Pax, Dorchester etc ranges, but everything I read seemed to point to the LNs are being far superior, and I do like the open handles because I do have largish hands.

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

Terry, If you haven't bought one yet, I would recommend to you the Nokia 6310i. It's an older model (I've had mine a couple of years) - no camera, no polyphonic ringtones, but has tri-band (for USA), has bluetooth, has a very long battery life, and is very robust. Nokia have sold millions of...
